The elevation gradient of lichen species richness in Nepal

The Lichenologist, 2009
AbstractThis study of elevation gradients of lichen species richness in Nepal aimed to compare distribution patterns of different life-forms, substratum affinities, photobiont types, and Nepalese endemism. Distribution patterns of lichens were compared with elevational patterns shown by a wide range of taxonomic groups of plants along the Nepalese ...

A theoretical study of the optimization of gradients at elevated temperature

Journal of Separation Science, 2001
In order to achieve fast chromatographic separations of unknown entities, very rapid gradients need to be performed. We have studied the influence of temperature on such rapid gradient separations carried out under reversed phase conditions. The tool by which the quality of a gradient separation is measured is the peak capacity.

Tree growth response along an elevational gradient

2013
Environment and genetics combine to influence tree growth and should therefore be jointly considered when evaluating forest responses in a warming climate. Here, we combine dendroclimatology and population genetic approaches with the aim of attributing climatic influences on growth of European larch (Larix decidua) and Norway spruce (Picea abies ...

Bird Species Diversity on an Andean Elevational Gradient

Ecology, 1977
This paper analyzes patterns of bird species diversity on an elevational transect of the Cordillera Vilcabamba, Peru. Major changes in climate and vegetation are encompassed by the transect which extended from the Apurimac Valley floor at 500 m to the summit ridge of the range at >3,500 m.

Anthophilous Fly Distribution Across an Elevation Gradient

American Midland Naturalist, 1992
-Flower-visiting Diptera are abundant in montane and Arctic areas. This research, conducted on the western slope of the Colorado Rocky Mountains: (1) characterizes the predominant anthophilous fly taxa in comparison with other high-elevation and highlatitude sites; (2) examines changes in fly abundance with elevation, and (3) examines the potential of ...

Habitat partitioning by sparrows along an elevational gradient

2008
Although species replacements along environmental gradients are commonly attributed to interspecific competition, predictions of what species distributions would be in the absence of competition are usually lacking. I tested alternative hypotheses that might account for species distributions including: food, predation, and habitat structure.
