The Japanese Personnel Inquiry Records (PIR): Elite, Adoption, Family Composition in the 1900s [PDF]

The PIR contains rich information on family structure, education, occupation, and spatial mobility, capturing elite formation during Japan's transition from a feudal to modern society.
