Effects of Toolpath Parameters on Engagement Angle and Cutting Force in Ellipse-Based Trochoidal Milling of Titanium Alloy Ti-6Al-4V

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2023
Trochoidal milling is an efficient strategy for the rough machining of difficult-to-cut materials. The true trochoidal toolpath has C2 continuity and avoids sharp changes in engagement angle and cutting load, resulting in smooth machine tool movement ...

Derivation of closed-form ellipsoidal X-ray mirror shapes from Fermat's principle

open access: yesJournal of Synchrotron Radiation, 2022
Ellipsoidal and plane-elliptical surfaces are widely used as reflective, point-to-point focusing elements in many optical systems, including X-ray optics.

Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 increases metastatic potential and aggressiveness in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aldehyde dehydrogenase 1A1 (ALDH1A1) is a cancer stem cell marker in several malignancies. We established a novel epithelial cell line from rectal adenocarcinoma with unique overexpression of this enzyme. Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 led to increased invasive capacity and metastatic potential, the inhibition of proliferation activity, and ultimately ...

Research on vibration compensation mechanism of engine ellipse timing system and belt tension distribution at meshing points

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Mechanical Design, Systems, and Manufacturing, 2021
Aiming at the problem of camshaft torsional oscillation caused by the torque of the engine camshaft spring, this paper carries out the research on the compensation of the elliptical pulley timing system for the torsional oscillation of the camshaft.

Analysing the significance of small conformational changes and low occupancy states in serial crystallographic data

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This protocol paper outlines methods to establish the success of a time‐resolved serial crystallographic experiment, by means of statistical analysis of timepoint data in reciprocal space and models in real space. We show how to amplify the signal from excited states to visualise structural changes in successful experiments.

Enhancing Corrosion Resistance and Mechanical Strength of 3D‐Printed Iron Polylactic Acid for Marine Applications via Laser Surface Texturing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Laser surface texturing significantly improves the corrosion resistance and mechanical strength of 3D‐printed iron polylactic acid (Ir‐PLA) for marine applications. Optimal laser parameters reduce corrosion by 80% and enhance tensile strength by 25% and ductility by 15%.

Classical demonstration of frequency dependent noise ellipse rotation using Optomechanically Induced Transparency

open access: yes, 2014
Cavities with extremely narrow linewidth of 10-100 Hz are required for realizing frequency dependent squeezing to enable gravitational wave detectors to surpass the free mass standard quantum limit over a broad frequency range.
