Topological monodromy as an obstruction to Hamiltonization of nonholonomic systems: pro or contra? [PDF]
The phenomenon of a topological monodromy in integrable Hamiltonian and nonholonomic systems is discussed. An efficient method for computing and visualizing the monodromy is developed.

We reconsider the ellipsoid method for linear inequalities. Using the ellipsoid representation of Burrell and Todd, we show the method can be viewed as coordinate descent on the volume of an enclosing ellipsoid, or on a potential function, or on both.

Towards More Practical Linear Programming-based Techniques for Algorithmic Mechanism Design [PDF]
R. Lavy and C. Swamy (FOCS 2005, J. ACM 2011) introduced a general method for obtaining truthful-in-expectation mechanisms from linear programming based approximation algorithms.

Three Ellipsoids for External Approximation of the Half-Ball
Introduction. Ellipsoids that approximate the half-ball in Rn (n≥2) and their volume is smaller than the volume of the ball can be used to construct algorithms for solving the problem of minimization of a convex (smooth or non-smooth) function, the ...

A computer algorithm for assessment of globularity of protein structures is presented. By enclosing the input protein in a minimum volume ellipsoid (MVEE) and calculating a profile measuring how voxelized space within this shape (cubes on a uniform grid)

Affinely Invariant Matching Methods with Ellipsoidal Distributions
Consider the treated and control populations of size \(N_ t\) and \(N_ c\) respectively and \(X\) a set of matched variables recorded on all \(N_ t+N_ c\) units. Due to cost considerations, outcomes and additional covariates are recorded for matched subsamples of sizes \(n_ t\leq N_ t\) and \(n_ c\leq N_ c\) chosen such that the distributions of \(X ...

ERRFI1, a neural crest (NC)‐associated gene, was upregulated in melanoma and negatively correlated with the expression of melanocytic differentiation markers and the susceptibility of melanoma cells toward BRAF inhibitors (BRAFi). Knocking down ERRFI1 significantly increased the sensitivity of melanoma cells to BRAFi.

Relative periodic orbits in point vortex systems
We give a method to determine relative periodic orbits in point vortex systems: it consists mainly into perform a symplectic reduction on a fixed point submanifold in order to obtain a two-dimensional reduced phase space.

A subsampling method for the computation of multivariate estimators with high breakdown point [PDF]
All known robust location and scale estimators with high breakdown point for multivariate sample's are very expensive to compute. In practice, this computation has to be carried out using an approximate subsampling procedure.

Cytoplasmic p21 promotes stemness of colon cancer cells via activation of the NFκB pathway
Cytoplasmic p21 promotes colorectal cancer stem cell (CSC) features by destabilizing the NFκB–IκB complex, activating NFκB signaling, and upregulating BCL‐xL and COX2. In contrast to nuclear p21, cytoplasmic p21 enhances spheroid formation and stemness transcription factor CD133.
