Using an Ellipsoid Model to Track and Predict the Evolution and Propagation of Coronal Mass Ejections

open access: yes, 2012
We present a method for tracking and predicting the propagation and evolution of coronal mass ejections (CMEs) using the imagers on the STEREO and SOHO satellites.

Dynamics of spinning test particles in Kerr spacetime [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
We investigate the dynamics of relativistic spinning test particles in the spacetime of a rotating black hole using the Papapetrou equations. We use the method of Lyapunov exponents to determine whether the orbits exhibit sensitive dependence on initial ...

Peroxidasin enables melanoma immune escape by inhibiting natural killer cell cytotoxicity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Peroxidasin (PXDN) is secreted by melanoma cells and binds the NK cell receptor NKG2D, thereby suppressing NK cell activation and cytotoxicity. PXDN depletion restores NKG2D signaling and enables effective NK cell–mediated melanoma killing. These findings identify PXDN as a previously unrecognized immune evasion factor and a potential target to improve

The effective ellipsoid: a method for calculating the permittivity of composites with multilayer ellipsoids

open access: yesScience and Engineering of Composite Materials, 2018
In order to calculate the effective permittivity of a mixture with multilayer ellipsoids, this paper presents a self-consistent approximation (SCA) on the basis of the Bruggeman’s analytical model.

Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 increases metastatic potential and aggressiveness in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aldehyde dehydrogenase 1A1 (ALDH1A1) is a cancer stem cell marker in several malignancies. We established a novel epithelial cell line from rectal adenocarcinoma with unique overexpression of this enzyme. Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 led to increased invasive capacity and metastatic potential, the inhibition of proliferation activity, and ultimately ...

Using the Ellipsoid Method for Sylvester's Problem and its Generalization

open access: yesКібернетика та комп'ютерні технології
Sylvester's problem or the problem of the smallest bounding circle is the problem of constructing a circle of the smallest radius that contains a finite set of points on the plane.

Biomechanical Effects of Torquing on Upper Central Incisor with Thermoplastic Aligner: A Comparative Three-Dimensional Finite Element Study with and Without Auxillaries

open access: yesJournal of Indian Orthodontic Society, 2022
Background and Objectives: This study was conducted to determine the effective method to torque the incisor with thermoplastic aligner using a three-dimensional (3D) finite element method. Materials and Methods: Three finite element models of maxilla and

Laser Ultrasound Inspection Based on Wavelet Transform and Data Clustering for Defect Estimation in Metallic Samples [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Laser-generated ultrasound is a modern non-destructive testing technique. It has been investigated over recent years as an alternative to classical ultrasonic methods, mainly in industrial maintenance and quality control procedures.

Dimethyl fumarate combined with cisplatin at subcytotoxic doses sensitizes cervical cancer toward ferroptosis and apoptosis through GSH restriction and p53 (re)activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) reduces growth of HPV‐positive cervical cancer spheroids and induces ferroptosis in cervical cancer cells via blocking SLC7A11/Glutathione (GSH) axis. Combination of subcytotoxic doses of DMF and cisplatin (CDDP) further suppresses spheroid growth and drives cell death in 2D culture models.

The Euler and Grace-Danielsson inequalities for nested triangles and tetrahedra: a derivation and generalisation using quantum information theory [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
We derive several results in classical Euclidean elementary geometry using the steering ellipsoid formalism from quantum mechanics. This gives a physically motivated derivation of very non-trivial geometric results, some of which are entirely new.
