Numerical Analysis of Flow around a Moving Object by an Immersed Boundary Method with the Level Set Method

open access: yesAdvances in Mechanical Engineering, 2013
We developed a new immersed boundary method which has various advantages, such as accuracy, flexibility, and rapidness combining with the level set method.

Shaped extensions of singular spectrum analysis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Extensions of singular spectrum analysis (SSA) for processing of non-rectangular images and time series with gaps are considered. A circular version is suggested, which allows application of the method to the data given on a circle or on a cylinder, e.g.

The boundary element approach to Van der Waals interactions

open access: yes, 2007
We develop a boundary element method to calculate Van der Waals interactions for systems composed of domains of spatially constant dielectric response.

Stochastic Ellipsoid Methods with Multiple Cuts

open access: yesTransactions of the Institute of Systems, Control and Information Engineers, 2008
Robust control systems synthesis is generally recast as a class of robust feasibility problems which is to find a solution satisfying a set of parameter-dependent convex constraints for all possible parameter values. For this class of the problems, a stochastic ellipsoid method with multiple cuts each of which corresponds to each of the constraint is ...

Establishment of a coculture system for Porphyromonas gingivalis and head and neck squamous cell carcinoma using spheroid culture and LATS inhibition

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We established a spheroid coculture system enabling viable Porphyromonas gingivalis–HNSCC interactions under normoxic conditions. Inhibition of LATS1/2 maintains tumor cells in an undifferentiated state, which may promote spheroid growth and create a more permissive environment for bacterial persistence.

Non-contrast low-dose CT can be used for volumetry of ADPKD

open access: yesBMC Nephrology, 2023
Background Kidney volume provides important information for the diagnosis and prognosis of autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD), as well as for the evaluation of the effects of drugs such as tolvaptan. Non-contrast computed tomography (CT)

MRI-based 3D retinal shape determination

open access: yesBMJ Open Ophthalmology, 2021
Objective To establish a good method to determine the retinal shape from MRI using three-dimensional (3D) ellipsoids as well as evaluate its reproducibility. Methods and analysis The left eyes of 31 volunteers were imaged using high-resolution ocular MRI.

Transverse Mercator with an accuracy of a few nanometers

open access: yes, 2011
Implementations of two algorithms for the transverse Mercator projection are described; these achieve accuracies close to machine precision. One is based on the exact equations of Thompson and Lee and the other uses an extension of Krueger's series for ...

KLK7 overexpression promotes an aggressive phenotype and facilitates peritoneal dissemination in colorectal cancer cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
KLK7, a tissue kallikrein‐related peptidase, is elevated in advanced colorectal cancer and associated with shorter survival. High KLK7 levels in ascites correlate with peritoneal metastasis. In mice, KLK7 overexpression increases metastasis. In vitro, KLK7 enhances cancer cell proliferation, migration, adhesion, and spheroid formation, driving ...

C2α‐carbanion‐protonating glutamate discloses tradeoffs between substrate accommodation and reaction rate in actinobacterial 2‐hydroxyacyl‐CoA lyase

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Enzymes of the 2‐hydroxyacyl‐CoA lyase group catalyze the condensation of formyl‐CoA with aldehydes or ketones. Thus, by structural adaptation of active sites, practically any pharmaceutically and industrially important 2‐hydroxyacid could be biotechnologically synthesized. Combining crystal structure analysis, active site mutations and kinetic assays,
