Galaxy Morphological Classification with Zernike Moments and Machine Learning Approaches
Classifying galaxies is an essential step for studying their structures and dynamics. Using GalaxyZoo2 (GZ2) fractions thresholds, we collect 545 and 11,735 samples in nongalaxy and galaxy classes, respectively.

Spectroscopic studies of supergiant elliptical galaxies [PDF]
This investigation reports on detailed spectroscopic observations of four southern supergiant elliptical galaxies. A Fourier Difference method is derived to analyse absorption-line data to obtain velocities, velocity dispersions and line-strengths.

In this thesis, radial colour and line strength gradients are investigated, and corresponding stellar population gradients are modelled. Together with the gradients, the morphology of the galaxies in optical and near-infrared colours is analyzed. When investigated in detail, every elliptical galaxy has its own special morphology, but nevertheless the ...

Dusty Feedback from Massive Black Holes in Two Elliptical Galaxies
Far-infrared dust emission from elliptical galaxies informs us about galaxy mergers, feedback energy outbursts from supermassive black holes and the age of galactic stars.

UV upturn of elliptical galaxies
We investigate the UV upturn phenomenon of elliptical galaxies by applying the binary model of hot subdwarfs of Han et al. (2002, 2003). Preliminary results show that the model provides a natural explanation for the UV upturn phenomenon and that the ...

THE AGES OF ELLIPTICAL GALAXIES
: We describe evidence supporting the view that the evolution of elliptical galaxies and spiral bulges was more complex and heterogeneous than formerly supposed. They appear to have prolonged, episodic star formation histories, and their dominant stellar

Morphological investigation of elliptical galaxies
We describe the two large surface photometry surveys of elliptical galaxies, completed at Mt. Hopkins and Lick observatories. These comprise the largest such surveys of early-type galaxies to this date, and will provide us with a large set of uniform ...
