We have developed and successfully tested new environmental liquid cells for HAXPES studies using specially designed thin, low‐stress silicon nitride membranes (15 to 25 nm thickness). The novel aspect is the fabrication of the membranes considering the geometry of the experimental setup, the dimensions of the beam and the use of platinum stripes to ...

Kinematics and stellar populations of the dwarf elliptical galaxy IC 3653 [PDF]
We present the first 3D observations of a diffuse elliptical galaxy (dE). The good quality data (S/N up to 40) reveal the kinematical signature of an embedded stellar disc, reminiscent of what is commonly observed in elliptical galaxies, though ...

Dynamical Models of Elliptical Galaxies [PDF]
Self-consistent dynamical models of elliptical galaxies have been constructed using a modification of the Prendergast-Tomer algorithm. They reproduce many of the observed properties of elliptical galaxies.

We recently found that massive cluster elliptical galaxies have strong Na I 8183,8195 and FeH 9916 Wing-Ford band absorption, indicating the presence of a very large population of stars with masses

The macroscopical anatomy of the lungs and thorax of the African lion (Panthera leo)
Abstract The left and right lungs extend from the second rib to the 13th, while only a small portion is present cranial to the 4th rib. The basal border of the left lung extends horizontally from the second costochondral junction (CCJ) to just ventral to the seventh CCJ, and then dorso‐caudally to the angle of the 13th rib. The right lung has a similar

The Globular Cluster System of the Virgo Dwarf Elliptical Galaxy VCC 1087 [PDF]
We present an analysis of the globular cluster (GC) system of the nucleated dwarf elliptical galaxy VCC 1087 in the Virgo Cluster based on Keck LRIS spectroscopy and archival Hubble Space Telescope Advanced Camera for Surveys imaging.

Causal Discovery in Astrophysics: Unraveling Supermassive Black Hole and Galaxy Coevolution
Correlation does not imply causation, but patterns of statistical association between variables can be exploited to infer a causal structure (even with purely observational data) with the burgeoning field of causal discovery.

Bufonia darvishii (Caryophyllaceae), a novel endemic species from Zagros Mountains, Iran
A new subalpine species of Bufonia sect. Longipedicellata from the Zagros Mountains in west Iran is described and illustrated here. It colonizes mountain slopes with gravelly, stony, and scree substrates in one locality of Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari province, preferably with a western and north‐west orientation, at elevations between 2700 and 3100 m a.s.

We have recently shown that the 3-parameter density-profile model from Prugniel & Simien provides a better fit to simulated, galaxy- and cluster-sized, dark matter halos than an NFW-like model with arbitrary inner profile slope gamma (Paper I).

Constraints on Elliptical Galaxy Formation from the Properties of Their Globular Cluster Systems [PDF]
Globular clusters are valuable fossil records of the formation and evolution of their host galaxies. The color distribution of elliptical galaxy globular cluster systems indicates an episodic formation history, consistent with a merger origin for these galaxies.
