TaskView: Design and Evaluation of a Task-Based Email Interface [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
Email was originally designed as a tool for asynchronous communication. However, as the number of messages increased, so did their variety. A wide range of new and unforeseen email tasks reflects this variety.

The characterisation of engineering activity through email communication and content dynamics, for support of engineering project management

open access: yesDesign Science, 2017
Significant challenge exists in the effective monitoring and management of engineering design and development projects. Due to traits such as contextual variation and scale, detailed understanding of engineering projects and activity are difficult to ...

Email communication in project management: A bane or a blessing?

open access: yesSouth African Journal of Information Management, 2017
Background: Project success used to be measured solely in terms of efficiency metrics such as scope, cost and time; however, there are proposals that more attention should be paid to process-related performance factors such as communication.

Managing Email Boundaries in a Boundaryless World

open access: yesAustralasian Journal of Information Systems
Despite the emergence and proliferation of sophisticated digital technologies, such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), work email remains a very popular tool for work communications. And we still do not know how to manage it effectively in our increasingly

Email invitations to publish: Academically sound (such as SAFP) versus potentially predatory journals

open access: yesSouth African Family Practice
Background: Researchers increasingly receive invitations by email to publish. We analysed email publication invitations received by staff members of the Department of Biostatistics, University of the Free State (UFS), comparing emails relating to ...

Gut microbiota alterations in patients with non‐small‐cell lung cancer undergoing chemoradiotherapy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We investigated the impact of concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CRT) on the gut microbiota in patients with locally advanced non‐small‐cell lung cancer. Overall gut microbiota composition remained largely stable throughout CRT while antibiotic exposure may influence microbial diversity.

Summarizing email threads [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of HLT-NAACL 2004: Short Papers on XX - HLT-NAACL '04, 2004
Summarizing threads of email is different from summarizing other types of written communication as it has an inherent dialog structure. We present initial research which shows that sentence extraction techniques can work for email threads as well, but profit from email-specific features.

Pathways and pitfalls: a qualitative study of student experiences in biomedical science education

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Biomedical science students from underrepresented backgrounds face barriers including financial strain, disrupted laboratory access and cultural exclusion. Peer networks provide vital support when institutional systems are difficult to navigate. To create inclusive learning environments and achieve academic success, educators should blend active, hands‐

Accurate and noninvasive prostate cancer detection using plasma‐derived extracellular vesicle RNA

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Plasma extracellular vesicles were captured with WGA‐conjugated magnetic beads and profiled for RNA biomarkers. A three‐RNA panel (NM_024955, NR_047469, and NR_002564) distinguished prostate cancer from healthy controls and benign prostatic hyperplasia, supporting a simple, noninvasive approach to improve prostate cancer detection.

Determinants of undergraduate bioscience engagement: Validating attendance barriers and classroom spatial behaviour across institutions

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Student engagement extends beyond simple attendance. Across 891 bioscience students from three universities, attendance behaviour was associated mainly with structural influences, whereas classroom spatial behaviour reflected affective and sensory factors.
