Physically consistent mesoscale model evaluation in complex terrain
This study introduces a novel approach for evaluating mesoscale atmospheric models in complex terrain by selecting physically consistent grid points and applying height‐based corrections. The method corrects for sensor height and terrain elevation differences between model and observations using a time‐varying lapse rate.

Potential common law liability for privately provided flood defences [PDF]
Public bodies have no statutory duty to provide flood defences and do not have funds available to meet all requests for them. This had led to recognition that flood prevention is not something to be left to others and there is now encouragement to ...

Distributed AutoML framework for multi‐objective optimization of concrete crack segmentation models
Abstract Monitoring cracks in concrete surfaces is essential for structural safety. While machine vision techniques have received significant interest in this domain, selecting optimal models and tuning hyperparameters remain challenging. This paper proposes a Distributed Automated Machine Learning (AutoML) framework for efficiently designing and ...

Dynamic impedances of bridge abutments [PDF]
The soil-structure interaction at bridge abutments may introduce important changes in the dynamic properties of short to medium span bridges. The paper presents the results obtained, through the use of the Boundary Element Method (B.E.M.) technique in ...

THE AESTHETICS OF URBAN METABOLISM: Landscape, Design and the Politics of In/Visibility
Abstract In this article, we chart the evolving aesthetic contours of urban metabolism across London, focusing on the River Lea and Thamesmead to the north and south of the River Thames, respectively. We begin in the nineteenth century, when these two sites formed critical nodes within a new sewerage system that relegated the city’s circulatory flows ...
