A case of embolic non-arteritic anterior ischaemic optic neuropathy in a young patient
We report a rare case of unilateral non-arteritic anterior ischaemic optic neuropathy (NAAION) of embolic origin in a 47-year-old male caused by hypertriglyceridaemia and significant atherosclerotic stenosis of bilateral carotid arteries.

Pulmonary embolism identification in computerized tomography pulmonary angiography scans with deep learning technologies in COVID-19 patients [PDF]
The main objective of this work is to utilize state-of-the-art deep learning approaches for the identification of pulmonary embolism in CTPA-Scans for COVID-19 patients, provide an initial assessment of their performance and, ultimately, provide a fast-track prototype solution (system).

Molecular Analysis of Prothrombotic Gene Variants in Venous Thrombosis: A Potential Role for Sex and Thrombotic Localization [PDF]
Background: Requests to test for thrombophilia in the clinical context are often not evidence-based. Aim: To define the role of a series of prothrombotic gene variants in a large population of patients with different venous thromboembolic diseases ...

Amniotic fluid embolism pathophysiology suggests the new diagnostic armamentarium: β-tryptase and complement fractions C3-C4 are the indispensable working tools [PDF]
Amniotic fluid embolism (AFE) is an uncommon obstetric condition involving pregnant women during labor or in the initial stages after delivery. Its incidence is estimated to be around 5.5 cases per 100,000 deliveries.

Statistical physics of cerebral embolization leading to stroke [PDF]
We discuss the physics of embolic stroke using a minimal model of emboli moving through the cerebral arteries. Our model of the blood flow network consists of a bifurcating tree, into which we introduce particles (emboli) that halt flow on reaching a node of similar size.

Liquid embolic agents for interventional embolization
Minimally invasive interventional embolization has tremendous advantages over conventional surgery in the treatment of vascular diseases and malignant tumors. Particularly, liquid embolic agents have garnered much attention owing to their properties of deep vascular penetration and full occlusion of vasculature independent of thrombus formation, which ...
