Formation of vertebral precursors: Past models and future predictions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
Disruption of normal vertebral development results from abnormal formation and segmentation of the vertebral precursors, called somites. Somitogenesis, the sequential formation of a periodic pattern along the antero-posterior axis of vertebrate embryos ...

Lipoxins: A Novel Regulator in Embryo Implantation [PDF]

open access: yesThe Scientific World JOURNAL, 2011
Embryo implantation is essential for mammalian pregnancy, which involves intricate cross-talk between the blastocyst and the maternal endometrium. Recent advances have identified various molecules crucial to implantation and endometrial receptivity, including leukemia inhibitory factor, calcitonin, and homeobox A10.

Biomaterial Strategies for Targeted Intracellular Delivery to Phagocytes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Phagocytes are essential to a functional immune system, and their behavior defines disease outcomes. Engineered particles offer a strategic opportunity to target phagocytes, harnessing inflammatory modulation in disease. By tuning features like size, shape, and surface, these systems can modulate immune responses and improve targeted treatment for a ...

Comparative Transcriptomic Analysis of Embryo Implantation in Mice and Rats

open access: yesCellular Physiology and Biochemistry, 2018
Background/Aims: Embryo implantation is an essential process for eutherian pregnancy, but this process varies across eutherians. The genomic mechanisms that led to the emergence and diversification of embryo implantation are largely unknown.

Towards High‐Acuity Vision Restoration: Hybrid Retinal Prosthesis Composed of a High‐Density Multielectrode Array Integrated With Glutamatergic Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This work introduces a novel Hybrid Retinal Implant (HRI), composed of a high‐density electrode array integrated with glutamatergic neurons to overcome key limitations of current retinal prostheses. The significant reduction of activation threshold and of electrode cross‐talk yields in an improved spatial resolution.

Appropriate Crypt Formation in the Uterus for Embryo Homing and Implantation Requires Wnt5a-ROR Signaling

open access: yesCell Reports, 2014
Embryo homing and implantation occur within a crypt (implantation chamber) at the antimesometrial (AM) pole along the uterus. The mechanism by which this is achieved is not known. Here, we show that villi-like epithelial projections from the main uterine

Nanobody‐Decorated Lipid Nanoparticles for Enhanced mRNA Delivery to Tumors In Vivo

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents a targeted mRNA‐LNP platform engineered with anti‐PSMA nanobodies for prostate cancer therapy. Using different in vivo models, the authors demonstrate selective uptake and mRNA delivery in PSMA+ cancer cells. However, while targeting is enhanced, mRNA delivery efficacy is limited by tissue penetration, tumor necrosis, and immune ...

Dysregulated LIF-STAT3 pathway is responsible for impaired embryo implantation in a Streptozotocin-induced diabetic mouse model

open access: yesBiology Open, 2015
The prevalence of diabetes is increasing worldwide with the trend of patients being young and creating a significant burden on health systems, including reproductive problems, but the effects of diabetes on embryo implantation are still poorly understood.

KRT18 regulates trophoblast cell migration and invasion which are essential for embryo implantation

open access: yesReproductive Biology and Endocrinology, 2023
Female infertility is a worldwide concern that impacts the quality of life and well-being of affected couples. Failure of embryo implantation is a major cause of early pregnancy loss and is precisely regulated by a programmed molecular mechanism.
