Prolongation of Embryo Sac Viability in Pear (Pyrus communis) Following Pollination or Treatment with Gibberellic Acid

open access: yesAnnals of Botany, 1987
Embryo sac development has been investigated in unpollinated, cross pollinated and gibberellic acid (GA2) treated flowers of Pyrus communis L. While pollination and GA3 treatments do not alter embryo sac development, they prolong embryo sac viability. In

Isolation of the lily embryo sac

Sexual Plant Reproduction, 1989
A 5%–8% yield of isolated embryo sacs of Lilium longiflorum was obtained using an enzymatic isolation procedure. The best results were obtained with a maceration mixture containing mannitol, pectinase, pectolyase, cellulase, hemicellulase, CaCl2 and NaOH.

The Embryo Sac of Epipactis

Botanical Gazette, 1911
1. The archesporium of Epipactis consists of a single hypodermal cell, which, without formation of parietals, functions as the megaspore mother cell. 2. In most cases the megaspore mother cell divides to two unequal daughter cells, the chalazal one again dividing to form two megaspores. The innermost megaspore then gives rise to the embryo sac. 3.
