Evolutionary significance of embryonic diapause in turtles
I tested the hypothesis that embryonic diapause is an adaptation for turtles experiencing extreme seasonal variation in climatic conditions, using the new world family Kinosternidae. Half of the species in the Kinosternidae undergo diapause during embryonic development.
