Prolactin: The Hypophyseal Factor That Terminates Embryonic Diapause in Mink [PDF]
The purpose of this experiment was to determine whether prolactin (PRL) is the factor that activates the quiescent corpus luteum (CL) and terminates the delay that precedes implantation in mink. Animals were hypophysectomized or sham-hypophysectomized 6 days after the second of two matings.

The feasibility of using RNA interference to control the globally important quarantine pest, the spongy moth. Targeting genes related to JHs play an important role in the growth and development of insects. First, the open reading frames (ORFs) of Ldjhamt and Ldjheh were identified and characterized, and the target genes were cloned and double‐stranded ...

Development of a dynamic population model as a decision support system for Codling Moth (Cydia pomonella L) management [PDF]
In 2004 RIMpro-Cydia was developed as a dynamic population model that simulates the within-year biology of a local codling moth population. The model is meant to be used by growers and advisors to optimize the control of codling moth populations in ...

We carried out functional studies using Dicer‐substrate small interfering RNAs (DsiRNAs), targeting the sex determination genes Cctransformer (Cctra) and Cctransformer‐2 (Cctra‐2) in the Mediterranean fruit fly (Ceratitis capitata). Microinjection of DsiRNAs into XX embryos (0‐1 h old) rapidly triggered the expression of male‐specific Cctra isoforms ...

Background Annual killifishes are adapted to surviving and reproducing over alternating dry and wet seasons. During the dry season, all adults die and desiccation-resistant embryos remain encased in dry mud for months or years in a state of diapause ...

European roe deer fecal samples were assayed to investigate the potential fluctuations of fecal thyroid hormone metabolites (FTMs) in response to environmental (e.g., the temperature, local densities) and individual (e.g., sex, age, body, and nutritional conditions) variables.

Summary: The role of the homeobox transcriptional repressor HESX1 in embryonic stem cells (ESCs) remains mostly unknown. Here, we show that Hesx1 is expressed in the preimplantation mouse embryo, where it is required during developmental diapause ...

Diapause is a reversible developmental arrest faced by many organisms in harsh environments. Annual killifish present this mechanism in three possible stages of development. Killifish are freshwater teleosts from Africa and America that live in ephemeral

Genome wide gene-expression analysis of facultative reproductive diapause in the two-spotted spider mite Tetranychus urticae [PDF]
Background: Diapause or developmental arrest, is one of the major adaptations that allows mites and insects to survive unfavorable conditions. Diapause evokes a number of physiological, morphological and molecular modifications.
