Recent Improvements in the EMC3‐Eirene Code

Contributions To Plasma Physics, 2014
AbstractThe EMC3‐Eirene code is improved in many aspects. Ad hoc boundary conditions for intrinsic impurities at the SOL‐core interface are removed by implicitly coupling to a 1D core model. Non‐uniform cross‐field transport coefficients are allowed in the new code version.

A comparison of SOLPS5.0 and 3D code EMC3-EIRENE for EAST double null configuration

Fusion Engineering and Design, 2016
Abstract The three-dimensional (3D) edge Monte Carlo code coupled with EIRENE (EMC3-EIRENE) was recently successfully implemented to the double null of EAST. The SOLPS5.0 code package has been used to investigate the validation and consistency of the 3D edge EMC3-EIRENE code on EAST.

3D Edge Transport Studies with EMC3‐EIRENE for the Dynamic Ergodic Divertor (DED) at TEXTOR

Contributions To Plasma Physics, 2008
AbstractIn this paper we introduce some model extensions to the energy balances of the 3D fluid Monte‐Carlo code EMC3 and study their influence on the simulation results for TEXTOR‐DED. We implemented local kinetic corrections to the classical parallel heat conductivity of electrons (heat flux limit).

Simulations of edge configurations in quasi-helically symmetric geometry using EMC3–EIRENE

Nuclear Fusion, 2013
Simulations of the edge of a quasi-helically symmetric (QHS) stellarator with geometry based on the Helically Symmetric eXperiment (HSX) are performed using the coupled codes EMC3–EIRENE. The standard configuration of HSX has an island structure outside the separatrix, corresponding to the 8/7 resonance.

Evaluation of edge transport and core accumulation of tungsten for CFETR with EMC3-EIRENE and STRAHL

Nuclear Fusion, 2022
Abstract The edge transport and core accumulation of tungsten (W) particles on China Fusion Engineering Test Reactor (CFETR) have been studied by integrated modelling consisting of EMC3-EIRENE and STRAHL codes. The edge transport and power dissipation of W particles are simulated by EMC3-EIRENE.

Status and Application of the EMC3/EIRENE Code

Contributions to Plasma Physics, 2000
The EMC3 code is benchmarked with the B2 code, based on identical fluid equations for a single-on plasma in a simplified 2D slab model. On the other hand, application to the W7-AS island divertor continues. We present the recent simulation results and compare them with those from the two-point model.

Simulations of lithium impurity transport with a liquid lithium divertor using EMC3-EIRENE and ITCD

Plasma Physics and Controlled Fusion, 2023
Abstract Simulations of lithium (Li) impurity transport behaviour with a liquid lithium divertor on the EAST tokamak have been performed using the fluid code EMC3-EIRENE and the Monte Carlo code ITCD. The interactions between particles and the wall surface, like the gyration-induced scrape-off effect, sheath acceleration, kinetic self ...

Implementation and first application of EMC3-EIRENE to EAST double-null divertor

Plasma Physics and Controlled Fusion, 2014
The 3D edge Monte Carlo code coupled with EIRENE (EMC3-EIRENE) has been implemented on the Experimental Advanced Superconducting Tokamak (EAST) and, for the first time, applied to an axisymmetric double null divertor plasma. The code results are compared with Langmuir probe measurements. The cross-field transport coefficients for particle and energy, D⊥
