Rapid eruption of the Emeishan continental flood basalts: New paleomagnetic and geochronologic constraints

open access: yesGSA Bulletin, 2021
The duration of the eruption of the Emeishan large igneous province is hotly debated. We conducted a magnetostratigraphic and geochronological study of the core area of the large igneous province in the Binchuan area of Yunnan Province, southwestern China, in order to constrain the duration of the eruption.

Development characteristics and petroleum geological significance of Permian pyroclastic flow volcanic rocks in Western Sichuan Basin, SW China

open access: yesPetroleum Exploration and Development, 2022
By examining field outcrops, drilling cores and seismic data, it is concluded that the Middle and Late Permian “Emeishan basalts” in Western Sichuan Basin were developed in two large eruption cycles, and the two sets of igneous rocks are in unconformable

Interaction of magma with sedimentary wall rock and magnetite ore genesis in the Panzhihua mafic intrusion, SW China [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
International audienceIn SW China, several large magmatic Fe-Ti-V oxide ore deposits are hosted by gabbroic intrusions associated with the Emeishan flood basalts.

Longevity of the Permian Emeishan mantle plume (SW China): 1 Ma, 8 Ma or 18 Ma? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
After the formation of the ∼ 260 Ma Emeishan large igneous province, there were two volumetrically minor magmatic pulses at ∼ 252 Ma and ∼ 242 Ma, respectively.

Origin of two differentiation trends in the Emeishan flood basalts

open access: yesChinese Science Bulletin, 2003
Both the Bowen and Fenner differentiation trends have been recognized in the Emeishan flood basalts. While the Longzhoushan lavas in Panxi paleorift evolved on a trend of silica enrichment (Bowen trend), the lavas from Guizhou evolved along the Fenner trend leading to the magmas with high Fe2O3 (23%) and low SiO2 (44%) contents.

Characteristics of Permian volcanism in the western Sichuan Basin and its natural gas exploration potential

open access: yesNatural Gas Industry B, 2019
It was previously deemed that volcanic rocks in the western Sichuan Basin were not developed, which restricted the exploration of volcanic gas reservoirs in this area.
