Establishing an Apheresis Medicine Program in a Resource‐Constrained Setting: A 5‐Year Experience From Lagos, Nigeria

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Establishing a comprehensive apheresis medicine program in a resource‐constrained setting presents significant structural, financial, and logistical challenges. Despite the growing clinical importance of apheresis services globally, published experience from sub‐Saharan Africa remains sparse.

Studies on Cooperative Emergency Regulation of Over-level Floods of Cascade Reservoirs

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences, 2018
Affected by global climate change, the frequency of extreme weather events increases in China, and the suddenness, harmfulness and unpredictability of the flood disaster exceeding the designed level are more serious.

Microbiome−host proteostasis crosstalk—An emerging perspective on mechanisms and interventions toward healthy longevity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Proteostasis and the gut microbiota play a key role in shaping host physiology. Microbiota‐derived metabolites, vitamins, and RNA modulate host proteostasis. Findings from model systems, including C. elegans, indicate microbes can either stabilize or disrupt host proteostasis.

Effects of Emergency Regulation of Three Gorges Reservoir During Emergency Response to Tuanzhou Polder Breach [PDF]

open access: yes长江科学院院报
[Objective] This study aims to quantitatively evaluate the effects of the emergency regulation of the Three Gorges Reservoir in response to the Tuanzhou polder breach emergency, thereby improving the understanding of flood control regulation of the Three

From mice to humans—divergent strategies for intestinal homeostasis and regeneration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Recent advances such as organoid genome editing, xenotransplantation, imaging, and whole‐genome sequencing have enabled direct studies of human intestinal stem cells (ISCs). These studies reveal species‐specific features, including slower ISC proliferation, distinct injury responses, slower somatic mutation accumulation in humans, and an inverse ...

Glycolysis: an emerging regulator of osteoarthritis

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology
Osteoarthritis (OA) has been a leading cause of disability in the elderly and there remains a lack of effective therapeutic approaches as the mechanisms of pathogenesis and progression have yet to be elucidated. As OA progresses, cellular metabolic profiles and energy production are altered, and emerging metabolic reprogramming highlights the ...

Reconstructing enzyme evolution by protein engineering

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Natural enzyme evolution can be retraced by protein engineering methods such as directed evolution, rational design, and ancestral sequence reconstruction. These approaches reveal how enzymes emerged from ligand‐binding scaffolds, developed varying substrate preferences, formed oligomeric complexes, adapted to environmental changes, and evolved novel ...

An Emerging Model of Auxin Transport Regulation [PDF]

open access: yesThe Plant Cell, 2002
The hormone auxin plays a critical role in the regulation of plant growth and development. Auxin is transported from cell to cell with strict directionality by uptake and efflux carrier proteins (reviewed by [Muday and DeLong, 2001][1]).

Emerging role of miRNAs in the regulation of ferroptosis

open access: yesFrontiers in Molecular Biosciences, 2023
Ferroptosis is a kind of cell death which has distinctive features differentiating it from autophagy, necrosis and apoptosis. This iron-dependent form of cell death is described by an increase in lipid reactive oxygen species, shrinkage of mitochondria and decrease in mitochondrial cristae.

A Systems Approach to Modeling Loyalty Contagion and Adaptive Regulation in Emergency Document Systems: The Role of User Stickiness

open access: yesSystems
Aiming at the problems of low information coordination efficiency and insufficient sustained user participation in emergency document systems during incident response, this paper proposes a user stickiness-based loyalty contagion and adaptive regulation ...
