Principles for Rigorous Design and Application of Synthetic Microbial Communities

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
SynComs are artificially designed to enable inter‐species metabolic interactions, metabolic division of labor, and ecological interactions that can elicit phenotypes like colonization stability and environmental adaptation. This systematic review explores the processes used to construct SynComs, the assessment of the mechanisms of metabolic interaction

Chloroplast Stress Signals Orchestrate Epidermis‐Specific Remodeling of Mitochondria and ER Under High Light

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
High light exposure triggers an epidermis‐specific remodeling of mitochondria and ER in Arabidopsis, driven by chloroplast‐derived signals. Live‐cell imaging shows that HL rapidly suppresses mitochondrial motility, followed by fusion‐driven elongation and ER cisternal expansion.

Emergency Messaging to General Public via Public Wireless Networks [PDF]

open access: yes
Warnings to the broad population in an emergency situation, irrespective of location and condition, is a public policy responsibility. Public wireless networks offer now the opportunity to deliver emergency warnings in this way with explanations, because

Atomic‐Scale Insights into Yttrium‐Induced Grain Boundary Structure Modification in Al2O3

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Using advanced STEM characterization combined with NNP‐based MCMD calculations, it is revealed that Y segregation at ∑13 Al2O3 GB involves not only simple substitution of Y for Al atoms but also structural adaptation with a change in GB atomic density, leading to minimized excess volume and lowest GB energy.

A Deep Representation Learning Method for Quantitative Immune Defense Function Evaluation and Its Clinical Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ImmuDef, a novel algorithm to quantitatively evaluate the anti‐infection immune defense function of an individual based on RNA‐seq data via a variational autoencoder (VAE) model. It is validated on 3200+ samples across four immune states with high accuracy. It can serve as a metric for disease severity and prognosis across pathogenic cohorts.

Introducing a pattern for developing emergency scenarios in industries and studying the conformity of the exercised scenarios in the process industries with the presented pattern

open access: yesSalāmat-i kār-i Īrān, 2017
Background and aims: Use of a comprehensive and standard-based scenario is of pivotal importance in conducting emergency exercises. Despite the importance of such scenarios, there is no approved, universal pattern used by Iranian industries for designing

Tobacco Smoke Exposure From Prenatal To Adolescent Periods Drives IBD Pathogenesis: Dynamic DNA Methylation Signatures Across Lifespan Stages

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study illustrates that maternal smoking during pregnancy (MSDP) is an independent risk factor for IBD in offspring, and DNA methylation serves as a key mechanistic pathway connecting early‐life smoking exposure with IBD risk in offspring. That highlights the urgent need for preventive interventions targeting prospective parents and minors to ...

[The layperson in emergency situation].

Two Distinct Phonon Wave Effects Control Thermal Transport across the Coherent–Incoherent Regime in Superlattices

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Thermal transport in smooth‐interface superlattices is studied using the phonon Wigner transport equation, which captures both particle‐like and wave‐like contributions. A minimum in cross‐plane thermal conductivity emerges with increasing period thickness, signaling a crossover from coherent to incoherent phonon transport.
