On the $\eta'$ Gluonic Admixture

open access: yes, 1999
The $\eta'$ which is an $SU(3)_F$ singlet state can contain a pure gluon component, gluonium. We examine this possibility by analysing all available experimental data. It is pointed out that the $\eta'$ gluonic component may be as large as 26%.

Specific detection of dengue and Zika virus antibodies using envelope proteins with mutations in the conserved fusion loop [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Detection of antibodies is widely used for the diagnosis of infections with arthropod-borne flaviviruses including dengue (DENV) and Zika virus (ZIKV). Due to the emergence of ZIKV in areas endemic for DENV, massive co-circulation is observed and methods

Ultrabroadband and Highly Sensitive Short‐Wave Infrared Molecular Fingerprinting via Acoustic MXene Plasmons

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Acoustic plasmons in Ti3C2Tx MXene strongly compress infrared electromagnetic fields and enhance light–matter interactions at the nanoscale. This platform couples broadband plasmon excitations with molecular vibrations, enabling simultaneous sensing of high‐ and low‐frequency vibrational modes in ultrathin PMMA and graphene oxide films, and extending ...

Wireless, Adaptable and Fully Implantable Battery‐powered Devices for Optical Stimulation of the Spinal Cord in Small Rodents

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Current technologies for spinal cord optogenetic stimulation rely on external power sources and face reliability constraints in freely behaving animals. Here, a fully implantable, battery‐powered optoelectronic device is introduced, enabling operation in any selected environment with wireless recharging for months‐long stimulation.

Imaging time series for the classification of EMI discharge sources [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
In this work, we aim to classify a wider range of Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) discharge sources collected from new power plant sites across multiple assets. This engenders a more complex and challenging classification task.

Tailoring Successive Magnetic‐Dielectric Synergy for Enhancing Electromagnetic Absorption in Ultralong Heterostructure Chains Assisted by High Static Magnetic Field

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This work proposes a high static magnetic field (HSMF) driven dual‐low‐dimension strategy for fabricating magnetic‐dielectric heterostructure (Fe3O4@MoS2) chains with programmable lengths. The constructed successive magnetic‐dielectric synergy, arising from uniaxial anisotropy‐enhanced magnetic response and abundant heterointerfaces that boost ...

EMI pioneers

open access: yesColombian Applied Linguistics Journal
This study is part of a project aimed at mapping the implementation of English as a Medium of Instruction (EMI) at the Federal University of Santa Maria (UFSM). EMI is the use of English in teaching and learning content in curricular courses at universities where the language of instruction is not English (Dearden, 2014).

Self‐Assembly Ordered Layered Gels for Thermochromic Smart Windows With Excellent Electromagnetic Shielding Properties

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Metal‐ion‐coupled self‐assembled layered gels were prepared using a simple sol–gel method, successfully integrating electromagnetic shielding and thermochromic functions into the material. SCa‐1, which exhibits the best overall performance, achieves an electromagnetic shielding efficiency of up to 72.49 dB, while maintaining a visible light ...
