2D full-wave simulation of waves in space and tokamak plasmas

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2017
Simulation results using a 2D full-wave code (FW2D) for space and NSTX fusion plasmas are presented. The FW2D code solves the cold plasma wave equations using the finite element method.

Relativistic Landau resonances [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
The possible interactions between plasma waves and relativistic charged particles are considered. An electromagnetic perturbation in the plasma is formulated as an elliptically polarized wave, and the collisionless plasma is described by a distribution ...

Discovery of 1 Hz Range Modulation of Isolated Proton Aurora at Subauroral Latitudes

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 2018
Isolated proton aurora (IPA) is a manifestation of the wave‐particle interaction visible at subauroral latitudes, with activity on many timescales. We herein present the first observational evidence of rapid luminous modulation of IPA correlated with ...

Nonlinear Scattering of 90° Pitch Angle Electrons in the Outer Radiation Belt by Large‐Amplitude EMIC Waves

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 2020
Electromagnetic ion cyclotron (EMIC) waves can cause relativistic electron scattering and atmospheric precipitation, primarily via cyclotron resonant interactions in the Earth's radiation belts.

Inclusion of Nonresonant Effects Into Quasi‐Linear Diffusion Rates for Electron Scattering by Electromagnetic Ion Cyclotron Waves

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters
Electromagnetic ion cyclotron (EMIC) waves are a key plasma mode affecting radiation belt dynamics. These waves are important for relativistic electron losses through scattering and precipitation into Earth's ionosphere.

A Probabilistic Model for Global EMIC Wave Activity Using Van Allen Probes Observations

open access: yesEarth and Space Science
Electromagnetic ion cyclotron (EMIC) waves play a key role in radiation belt dynamics through resonant interactions. However, their low occurrence probability, high variability, and spatial intermittency pose challenges for accurate modeling.
