Genetic Diversification in a New Guinean Frog Genus (Mantophryne, Microhylidae) was Driven by Ancient Tectonic Activity and Climate Reorganisation

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 5, May 2026.
Our dated phylogeny and biogeographic analysis of Mantophryne, a microhylid frog genus endemic to New Guinea, revealed origins in the East Papuan Composite Terrane (EPCT) in the late Pliocene. Dispersal and diversification out from the EPCT was driven by tectonic activity and climate reorganisation, creating habitat corridors and isolations in the Late

Stochastic colonization, transient and boom–bust dynamics shape invasions by native taxa

open access: yesEcology, Volume 107, Issue 5, May 2026.
Abstract Boom–bust dynamics (BBD) is a population dynamic pattern described in invasion ecology, where a population suddenly increases (boom) before quickly declining (bust), eventually stabilizing at much lower levels. This initial outbreak is considered a transient phase preceding a long‐term population equilibrium.

Development and Internal Validation of a Machine Learning Model for Predicting Long‐Term Opioid Therapy After Hip Fracture Surgery in Older, Opioid‐Naïve Adults

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Pain, Volume 30, Issue 5, May 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Long‐term opioid therapy (LTOT) after hip fracture surgery is a common postoperative complication associated with adverse outcomes, yet tools to identify at‐risk patients among opioid‐naïve older adults are lacking. This study aimed to develop and internally validate a parsimonious model to predict LTOT following hip fracture ...

Population dynamics of Townsend's big‐eared bats: effect of age and drought on survival

open access: yesThe Journal of Wildlife Management, Volume 90, Issue 4, May 2026.
We estimated age‐specific yearly survival of female Townsend's big‐eared bats in Inyo and Mono Counties, California. We found that both juvenile and adult survival were negatively impacted by drought, and that detection probability was lower for hand‐recapture than for bats detected via pass‐through antenna arrays.

Human Cytomegalovirus Infection in Haematopoietic Stem Cell Transplant Recipients and CAR T Cell Recipients – PART 1: Risk Factors, Clinical Impact and Immune Response

open access: yesReviews in Medical Virology, Volume 36, Issue 3, May 2026.
ABSTRACT Human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) is one of the most important opportunistic pathogens in immunocompromised individuals, including allogeneic haematopoietic stem cell transplant (allo‐HSCT) recipients. In allo‐HSCT, HCMV seropositivity of the recipient and donor is associated with inferior survival outcomes, and post‐transplant HCMV reactivation is

Learning About the Acadian Deportation Through Children's Literature

open access: yesThe Reading Teacher, Volume 79, Issue 6, May/June 2026.
ABSTRACT The purpose of this Teaching and Learning Guide is to provide perspective on addressing the difficult topic of deportation of an ethnic group while using children's literature as a guide; we also aim to model evidence‐based reading comprehension strategies such as activating prior knowledge and making text‐to‐self connections.
