Dramatic Shape Sensitivity of Directional Emission Patterns from Similarly Deformed Cylindrical Polymer Lasers

open access: yes, 2003
Recent experiments on similarly shaped polymer micro-cavity lasers show a dramatic difference in the far-field emission patterns. We show for different deformations of the ellipse, quadrupole and hexadecapole that the large differences in the far-field ...

Comparative Analysis of Energy and Emission Properties of Hazelnut Shell Biomass from Temperate and Subtropical Climates

open access: yesEnergies
The aim of this research was to compare the estimation of waste biomass in the form of hazelnut husk (Corylus avellana L.) originating from two different climate zones—temperate (Poland) and subtropical (Turkey)—in terms of their energy and emission ...

Dimethyl fumarate combined with cisplatin at subcytotoxic doses sensitizes cervical cancer toward ferroptosis and apoptosis through GSH restriction and p53 (re)activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) reduces growth of HPV‐positive cervical cancer spheroids and induces ferroptosis in cervical cancer cells via blocking SLC7A11/Glutathione (GSH) axis. Combination of subcytotoxic doses of DMF and cisplatin (CDDP) further suppresses spheroid growth and drives cell death in 2D culture models.

The Spectral Energy Distribution of Dust Emission in the Edge-on spiral galaxy NGC 4631 as seen with Spitzer and the James Clerk Maxwell telescope [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
We explore variations in dust emission within the edge-on Sd spiral galaxy NGC 4631 using 3.6-160 μm Spitzer Space Telescope data and 450-850 μm JCMT data with the goals of understanding the relation between PAHs and dust emission, studying the ...

IMPDH inhibition enhances cytarabine efficacy in SAMHD1‐expressing leukaemia cells via guanine nucleotide depletion

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cytarabine is a key therapy for acute myeloid leukaemia (AML), but its efficacy is limited by the dNTPase SAMHD1, which hydrolyses its active metabolite. Screening nucleotide biosynthesis inhibitors revealed that IMPDH inhibitors selectively sensitise SAMHD1‐proficient AML cells to cytarabine.

Emissions by aerial routes from protected crop systems (greenhouses and crops grown under cover) : a position paper [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
This report describes the processes that may lead to emission of Plant Protection Products (PPP) from protected cultivation, through aerial routes. The introduction gives the background for this work and the limitations, outlining in particular why ...

On thermalization in gamma-ray burst jets and the peak energies of photospheric spectra

open access: yes, 2012
The low energy spectral slopes of the prompt emission of most gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) are difficult to reconcile with radiatively efficient optically thin emission models irrespective of the radiation mechanism. An alternative is to ascribe the radiation

Enteric methane emission response to peanut (Arachis hypogaea) and cowpea (Vigna unguiculata) haulms supplementation in zebu cattle diets

open access: yesFrontiers in Animal Science
Improving the quality of ruminant rations is a promising strategy for mitigating the climate impact of livestock farming in West Africa. Legume crop coproducts such as peanut (Arachis hypogaea) and cowpea (Vigna unguiculata) haulms are a high-protein ...

Estimating basic wood density and its uncertainty for Pinus densiflora in the Republic of Korea [PDF]

open access: yesAnnals of Forest Research, 2012
According to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change(IPCC) guidelines, uncertainty assessment is an important aspect of a greenhouse gas inventory, and effort should be made to incorporate it into the reporting.

Raman‐based label‐free microscopic analysis of the pancreas in living zebrafish larvae

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Forward stimulated Raman scattering (F‐SRS) and epi coherent anti‐Stokes Raman scattering (E‐CARS) allow label‐free discrimination of distinct subcellular structures in the pancreas of living zebrafish larvae. Given the straightforward applicability, we anticipate broad implementation of Raman microscopy in other organs and across various biomedical ...
