Emission Trading Systems in Transportation

2020
Emissions trading systems (ETSs) apply a market-oriented approach to the control of pollutant emissions, affording flexibility to emitters to decide when and where emissions will be abated. Most ETSs to date have applied to a limited number of stationary sources in industry and the power sector, where emissions can be easily monitored and the ETS ...

BP's emissions trading system

Energy Policy, 2006
Abstract Between 1998 and 2001, BP reduced its emissions of greenhouse gases by more than 10%. BP's success in cutting emissions is often equated with its use of an apparently market-based emissions trading program. Endogenous Cap Reduction in Emission Trading Systems

2023
Since its introduction, the European Emissions Trading Scheme (EU ETS) has been struggling with an oversupply of emission allowances and a highly volatile allowance price. One reason for the price decline is technological progress and ist demand-reducing effect, which is only partially taken into account in the system.

Pollution and Environmentalists’ Participation in Emissions Trading Systems

Strategic Behavior and the Environment, 2014
In this paper, we show that the participation by an environmental group in a permit market does not necessarily result in more investment in abatement or even less pollution. There is a U-shaped relationship between the emission per unit of output and the extra weight given by the environmental group to the reduction of emissions.

Trade and the emissions trading system in a small open economy

Environmental Economics and Policy Studies, 2016
To control greenhouse gas emissions efficiently, we should regulate all pollution emission sources in the economy equally. However, in the real world, environmental regulations differ by sector. Using a small open economy model, this paper examines how the enforcement of an economy-wide emissions trading system (ETS) (i.e., uniform environmental ...
