13‐3: Display Quality Measures for Direct Emission LED Displays
SID Symposium Digest of Technical Papers, 2016In this paper, we show that typical rule‐of‐thumb measures for visual quality are inadequate when characterizing digital signage‐type displays, which typically exhibit very large angular extent, large viewing distances, high front of screen luminance and pixel spatial profiles which are delta‐like. We introduce a method based on the Barten integral and

The Status of Field Emission Displays
2007 IEEE International Vacuum Electronics Conference, 2007FED is drawing attentions as one of the most promising flat panel displays and as a real successional display to CRT. For 20 years, many institute and companies have coped with the development of FEDs. However, the development of FEDs did not proceed on schedule. Recently, some breakthroughs have been made in FED technologies.

Field emission displays: a critical review
Solid-State Electronics, 2001Abstract The goal of making attractive flat panel displays (FPDs) based on arrays of cold cathodes has now become a reality. Pixtech and Futaba have begun commercial production of low voltage, monochrome field emission displays (FEDs). Moreover, public response to the high voltage, full color, VGA FED prototypes shown by Candescent and Motorola at ...

Carbon Nanotube Field Emission Display
2002An excellent performance of carbon nanotubes as field-emitters was demonstrated using a high-voltage FED (field emission display) elements at SID (Society for Information Display) in 1998, where a light-source tube for an outdoor large-size display and diode-type flat panel were presented with a screen-printed nanotube cathode [1].

Field emission display development and testing
IVMC '95. Eighth International Vacuum Microelectronics Conference. Technical Digest (Cat. No.TH8012), 2002Field Emission Displays (FEDs) can have significant advantages over existing display technologies, particularly in the area of small, high-resolution displays. Micron Display Technology (MDT) has been developing a high-resolution display for use in camcorder viewfinders, HMDs, and virtual reality headware.

Engineering phosphors for field emission displays
Journal of Vacuum Science & Technology B: Microelectronics and Nanometer Structures Processing, Measurement, and Phenomena, 1999Factors affecting the synthesis and properties of a new generation of fine particle low voltage phosphors in field emission displays are reviewed. The morphology and particle size, the composition and stoichiometry, the stability, together with the nature and shape of the particle surface, all play important roles in the performance of the final ...

The inside out field emission display
Eleventh International Vacuum Microelectronics Conference. IVMC'98 (Cat. No.98TH8382), 2002Summary form only given, as follows. This paper presents a design for a monolithic Field Emission Display (FED) with mirror reflective surfaces on the anode, which radiates the light from the phosphor toward the viewer, and in the direction of the electron flow bombarding the phosphor. The emission sources can be of any design, such as gated microtips,
