Greek, Roman, and Byzantine Studies, 2013 Probable references to the hymn by Aristophanes and Empedocles point to an archaic date instead of Hellenistic or later; its focus on beauty rather than divine intercession gives the hymn more an aesthetic than a hymnic force.
