Empididae is one of the biggest families of Diptera with around 3,000 known species. The family is poorly known in Colombia, with only six species reported and this work provides information on their distribution. No endemic genera or species have been recorded to date from Colombia.

Familia Empididae De amplia distribución, se conocen alrededor de 700 especies en la región Neotropical con alrededor de 70 géneros (Yang, Zhang, Yao, Zhang, 2007). El hábitat preferido para las larvas y pupas se encuentra debajo de la superficie del agua sobre piedras o en el musgo de arroyos, en los sedimentos y en la zona higropétrica (Wagner, 1997).
