Enteropathogenic E. coli shows delayed attachment and host response in human jejunum organoid‐derived monolayers compared to HeLa cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Enteropathogenic E. coli (EPEC) infects the human intestinal epithelium, resulting in severe illness and diarrhoea. In this study, we compared the infection of cancer‐derived cell lines with human organoid‐derived models of the small intestine. We observed a delayed in attachment, inflammation and cell death on primary cells, indicating that host ...

[18F]Fluorodeprenyl‐D2 PET as a Tool to Monitor Disease Activity in GAD65‐Ab Autoimmune Encephalitis

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To evaluate [18F]fluorodeprenyl‐D2 ([18F]F‐DED) positron‐emission tomography (PET) imaging as a biomarker of disease activity in autoimmune encephalitis (AIE) associated with glutamic acid decarboxylase 65 (GAD65) antibodies. Methods [18F]F‐DED PET was performed in 25 GAD65‐AIE patients and 8 controls using dynamic (0–60 min) and ...

Low‐Angle Grain Boundaries and Re‐Segregation in Single‐Crystalline Ni‐Base Superalloys

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This work demonstrates that Re‐segregation at low‐angle grain boundaries (LAGBs) in Ni‐base superalloys is influenced by misorientation angle. Advanced microscopy and atom probe tomography reveal that higher misorientation angles increases Re‐segregation.

Empires and Percolation: Stochastic Merging of Adjacent Regions

open access: yes, 2009
We introduce a stochastic model in which adjacent planar regions $A, B$ merge stochastically at some rate $\lambda(A,B)$, and observe analogies with the well-studied topics of mean-field coagulation and of bond percolation.

Time‐Dependent Oxidation and Scale Evolution of a Wrought Co/Ni‐Based Superalloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study shows how a new wrought Co/Ni‐based superalloy resists oxidation at 800 ∘$^\circ$C. The oxide scale changes from rough, fast‐growing spinel to a dense, protective chromia–alumina layer. Atom probe analysis reveals tiny refractory‐rich bubbles at the interface that mark the transition to long‐term, diffusion‐controlled protection ...

The roots of "Western European societal evolution". A concept of Europe by Jenő Szűcs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Jenő Szűcs wrote his essay entitled Sketch on the three regions of Europe in the early 1980s in Hungary. During these years, a historically well-argued opinion emphasising a substantial difference between Central European and Eastern European societies ...

A Topology Optimization Framework for the Inverse Design of Nonlinear Mechanical Metamaterials

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This work uses topology optimization to design unit cells for mechanical metamaterials with a prescribed nonlinear stress–strain response. The framework adds contact and postbuckling modeling to synthesize microstructures for three highly nonlinear responses, including pseudoductile behavior, monostable with snap‐through buckling, and bistable ...

The History of Imperial Politics and the Politics of Imperial History

open access: yesJournal of Political Science: Bulletin of Yerevan University, 2022
This article constitutes a discourse of the essence of the empire, and on ensuing contradictions in what otherwise had been a commonly experienced history by Turks and Armenians in the Ottoman Empire. This article is a moment of reflection on the author’
