Reformulation empirical macroeconomic modelling

open access: yesOxford Review of Economic Policy, 2000
The policy implications of estimated macro-econometric systems depend on the formulations of their equations, the methodology of empirical model selection and evaluation, the techniques of policy analysis, and their forecast performance. Drawing on recent results in the theory of forecasting, we question the role of 'rational expectations'; criticize a

Rank-frequency relation for Chinese characters

open access: yes, 2014
We show that the Zipf's law for Chinese characters perfectly holds for sufficiently short texts (few thousand different characters). The scenario of its validity is similar to the Zipf's law for words in short English texts.

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Peroxidasin enables melanoma immune escape by inhibiting natural killer cell cytotoxicity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Peroxidasin (PXDN) is secreted by melanoma cells and binds the NK cell receptor NKG2D, thereby suppressing NK cell activation and cytotoxicity. PXDN depletion restores NKG2D signaling and enables effective NK cell–mediated melanoma killing. These findings identify PXDN as a previously unrecognized immune evasion factor and a potential target to improve

Modelling the implementation of narrow versus broader spectrum antibiotics in the empiric treatment of E. coli bacteraemia

open access: yesScientific Reports
The implementation of new antimicrobial resistance stewardship programs is crucial in optimizing antibiotic use. However, prescription choices can be difficult during empiric therapy; clinicians must balance the survival benefits of broader spectrum ...

European surveillance of infections in cancer patients - ESIC [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
Major advances in cancer therapy result from development of multidrug chemotherapy regimens. Besides death from tumor progression, infections are currently one of the major causes of mortality and morbidity.

Dammarenediol II enhances etoposide‐induced apoptosis by targeting O‐GlcNAc transferase and Akt/GSK3β/mTOR signaling in liver cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Etoposide induces DNA damage, activating p53‐dependent apoptosis via caspase‐3/7, which cleaves PARP1. Dammarenediol II enhances this apoptotic pathway by suppressing O‐GlcNAc transferase activity, further decreasing O‐GlcNAcylation. The reduction in O‐GlcNAc levels boosts p53‐driven apoptosis and influences the Akt/GSK3β/mTOR signaling pathway ...

Pre‐analytical optimization of cell‐free DNA and extracellular vesicle‐derived DNA for mutation detection in liquid biopsies

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pre‐analytical handling critically determines liquid biopsy performance. This study defines practical best‐practice conditions for cell‐free DNA (cfDNA) and extracellular vesicle–derived DNA (evDNA), showing how processing time, storage conditions, tube type, and plasma input volume affect DNA integrity and mutation detection.
