Lead–Lag Relationship Using a Stop-and-Reverse-MinMax Process

open access: yesRisks, 2016
The intermarket analysis, in particular the lead–lag relationship, plays an important role within financial markets. Therefore, a mathematical approach to be able to find interrelations between the price development of two different financial instruments

The Modified Form of the Gutenberg-Richter Law ‎in ‎Solar ‎Flare ‎Complex ‎Network‎ : ‎Approach of Genetic Algorithm on the Thresholded Power-Law Behavior [PDF]

open access: yesIranian Journal of Astronomy and Astrophysics, 2020
The hybrid model approach is adopted to construct the solar flare complex network. The modified form of Gutenberg-Richter law is obtained as the frequency-magnitude distribution of the empirical data.

一种基于经验分布的大地震复发概率计算方法

open access: yesDizhen xuebao, 2018

Uncertainty inherent in empirical fitting of distributions to experimental data

open access: yesInternational Journal of Metrology and Quality Engineering, 2013
Treatment of experimental data often entails fitting frequency functions, in order to draw inferences on the population underlying the sample at hand, and/or identify plausible mechanistic models.

Optimum probability estimation from empirical distributions [PDF]

open access: yesInformation Processing & Management, 1989
Probability estimation is important for the application of probabilistic models as well as for any evaluation in IR. We discuss the interdependencies between parameter estimation and certain properties of probabilistic models: dependence assumptions, binary vs. non-binary features, estimation sample selection.

Quantile-Zone Based Approach to Normality Testing

open access: yesMathematics, 2022
Normality testing remains an important issue for researchers, despite many solutions that have been published and in use for a long time. There is a need for testing normality in many areas of research and application, among them in Quality control, or ...

An Analysis of Household Income in Poland and Slovakia Based on Selected Income Models

open access: yesFolia Oeconomica Stetinensia, 2022
Research background: Studies of income distributions may focus on describing empirical distributions by theoretical models. This approach can be useful for many reasons.

Forecasting epidemic peaks with the index of dispersion of new cases

open access: yesFrontiers in Applied Mathematics and Statistics
IntroductionThe epidemic transition that took place in Europe and North America during the twentieth century, with the historical decline of infectious disease epidemics, gradually diverted physicians' attention from the world of “microbes.” However ...

A Comparative Analysis of Discrete Entropy Estimators for Large-Alphabet Problems

open access: yesEntropy
This paper presents a comparative study of entropy estimation in a large-alphabet regime. A variety of entropy estimators have been proposed over the years, where each estimator is designed for a different setup with its own strengths and caveats.
