Extending the scope of empirical likelihood

open access: yesThe Annals of Statistics, 2009
This article extends the scope of empirical likelihood methodology in three directions: to allow for plug-in estimates of nuisance parameters in estimating equations, slower than $\sqrt{n}$-rates of convergence, and settings in which there are a relatively large number of estimating equations compared to the sample size.

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

melt: Multiple Empirical Likelihood Tests in R

open access: yesJournal of Statistical Software
Empirical likelihood enables a nonparametric, likelihood-driven style of inference without relying on assumptions frequently made in parametric models.

Is Benford’s Law a Universal Behavioral Theory?

open access: yesEconometrics, 2015
In this paper, we consider the question and present evidence as to whether or not Benford’s exponential first significant digit (FSD) law reflects a fundamental principle behind the complex and nondeterministic nature of large-scale physical and ...

Adjusted Empirical Likelihood for Long-memory Time Series Models

open access: yes, 2016
Empirical likelihood method has been applied to short-memory time series models by Monti (1997) through the Whittle's estimation method. Yau (2012) extended this idea to long-memory time series models. Asymptotic distributions of the empirical likelihood

Dammarenediol II enhances etoposide‐induced apoptosis by targeting O‐GlcNAc transferase and Akt/GSK3β/mTOR signaling in liver cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Etoposide induces DNA damage, activating p53‐dependent apoptosis via caspase‐3/7, which cleaves PARP1. Dammarenediol II enhances this apoptotic pathway by suppressing O‐GlcNAc transferase activity, further decreasing O‐GlcNAcylation. The reduction in O‐GlcNAc levels boosts p53‐driven apoptosis and influences the Akt/GSK3β/mTOR signaling pathway ...

A Euclidean likelihood estimator for bivariate tail dependence [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The spectral measure plays a key role in the statistical modeling of multivariate extremes. Estimation of the spectral measure is a complex issue, given the need to obey a certain moment condition.

Pre‐analytical optimization of cell‐free DNA and extracellular vesicle‐derived DNA for mutation detection in liquid biopsies

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pre‐analytical handling critically determines liquid biopsy performance. This study defines practical best‐practice conditions for cell‐free DNA (cfDNA) and extracellular vesicle–derived DNA (evDNA), showing how processing time, storage conditions, tube type, and plasma input volume affect DNA integrity and mutation detection.

Computing Generalized Method of Moments and Generalized Empirical Likelihood with R

open access: yesJournal of Statistical Software, 2010
This paper shows how to estimate models by the generalized method of moments and the generalized empirical likelihood using the R package gmm. A brief discussion is offered on the theoretical aspects of both methods and the functionality of the package ...

Weighted Empirical Likelihood for Accelerated Life Model with Various Types of Censored Data

open access: yesStats
In analysis of survival data, the Accelerated Life Model (ALM) is one of the widely used semiparametric models, and we often encounter various types of censored survival data, such as right censored data, doubly censored data, interval censored data ...
