An Engineered Living Material With Pro‐Angiogenic Activity Inducible by Near‐Infrared Light

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
NIR‐responsive engineered living materials (ELMs) for controlled angiogenesis: Near‐infrared (800 nm) light activates engineered probiotic bacteria within alginate‐based living materials to secrete a blood vessel‐regenerating protein. The released protein promotes pro‐angiogenic effects in endothelial networks and chick chorioallantoic membranes.

On the Use of Ensemble Empirical Mode Decomposition for the Identification of Bridge Frequency from the Responses Measured in a Passing Vehicle

open access: yesInfrastructures, 2019
In this paper, ensemble empirical mode decomposition (EEMD) and empirical mode decomposition (EMD) methods are used for the effective identification of bridge natural frequencies from drive-by measurements.

Development of Empirical Mode Decomposition

open access: yesInternational Journal of Smart Sensor and Adhoc Network., 2012
In this paper, one of the tasks for which empirical mode decomposition is potentially useful is nonparametric signal denoising, an area for which wavelet thresholding has been the dominant technique for many years. In this paper, the wavelet thresholding principle is used in the decomposition modes resulting from applying EMD to a signal.

Adaptive Hydrogels With Spatiotemporal Stiffening Using pH‐Modulating Enzymes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The chemomechanical coupling in an adaptive hydrogel is studied to further the development of adaptive hydrogels. This coupling is achieved by embedding a pH‐modulating enzyme in a pH‐responsive hydrogel. The enzymatic reaction can be triggered locally, which generates a pH‐decreasing wave throughout the system, increasing the crosslinking density and ...

Jump point detection using empirical mode decomposition

open access: yesLand Use Policy, 2016
Real estate is an important form of investment in Hong Kong. Recent researches on the analysis of real estate market have revealed that jump points in the housing price time series play an essential role in the Hong Kong economy. Detecting such jump points thus becomes important as they represent vital findings that enable policy-makers and investors ...

Statistically Resolving Thickness‐Dependent Electrical Characteristics in Multilayer‐MoS2 Transistors

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A large number of MoS2 flakes were screened to obtain high‐quality flakes based on optical intensities in R, G, and B channel images. The flakes were classified from Level 1 to 6 based on optical intensities in the R, G, and B channel images. Low‐quality flake exhibited wrinkled, folded, or overlapped features, while high‐quality displayed a neat ...

Using Empirical Mode Decomposition to Estimate Amplitudes in Noisy Data. [PDF]

open access: yes
Empirical Mode Decomposition, an adaptive data-driven technique which can be used to extract non-stationary signals buried in noise, seldom admits theoretical calculation of the statistical properties of the extracted signals.

From RNA to DNA: How Cargo Identity Reprograms Lipid Nanoparticle Architecture and Function

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
The evolution of lipid nanoparticles (LNPs) spans from RNA‐LNPs, used in mRNA vaccines, to DNA‐LNPs, ideal for gene therapies. Emerging bionano architectures, decorated with DNA and plasma proteins, pave the way for advanced DNA‐based therapies that are more stable, targeted, and customizable.

Ultrasound elastography using empirical mode decomposition analysis

open access: yesJournal of Medical Signals & Sensors, 2014
Ultrasound elastography is a non-invasive method which images the elasticity of soft-tissues. To make an image, pre and after a small compression, ultrasound radio frequency (RF) signals are acquired and the time delays between them are estimated. The first differentiation of displacement estimations is called elastogram. In this study, we are going to
