A systematic review of transparency in Lesson Study research: how do we report on the observation and reflection stages?

open access: yesFrontiers in Education
Lesson Study is a method of professional development for teachers that has gained traction in recent decades. However, publications routinely fail to describe crucial details of the implementation or to link the mechanisms that facilitate teachers ...

The use of empirical research in bioethics: a survey of researchers in twelve European countries

open access: yesBMC Medical Ethics, 2017
Background The use of empirical research methods in bioethics has been increasing in the last decades. It has resulted in discussions about the ‘empirical turn of bioethics’ and raised questions related to the value of empirical work for this field ...

A new prescription for empirical ethics research in pharmacy: a critical review of the literature [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Empirical ethics research is increasingly valued in bioethics and healthcare more generally, but there remain as yet under-researched areas such as pharmacy, despite the increasingly visible attempts by the profession to embrace additional roles beyond ...

A Simulative Approach for the Prediction of Mesoscale Residual Stress Fields in Solution‐Strengthened Ferritic Ductile Iron

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents a 3D representative volume element‐based simulation approach to predict mesoscopic residual stress and strain fields in silicon solid solution‐strengthened ductile cast iron. By modeling phase transformation kinetics with an enhanced Johnson–Mehl–Avrami–Kolmogorov model, the effects of varying cooling rates on residual stresses are ...

Numerical Model and Experimental Validation of Composite Metal Foam in Protecting Carbon Steel Against Puncture

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The puncture prevention and energy absorption performance of composite metal foam (CMF) are studied experimentally and numerically for hazardous materials transportation protection. The numerical model implementing air within the CMF (nonhomogeneous model using fluid cavity technique) predicts puncture more accurately compared to the homogeneous CMF ...

Experimental Analysis and Physics‐Based Analytical Model on Twisted and Coiled Artificial Muscles

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Twisted and coiled artificial muscles made from silver‐coated nylon fibers are investigated through experiments and analytical modeling. The actuators achieve contractions up to 19.3% and specific work of 8 kJ kg−1, though efficiency remains limited (≈0.15%) by thermal losses.

High‐Entropy Alloy Design Toward Cobalt Substitution for High Hardness and Low Wear Rate Using X–Cr–Fe–Mn–Ni System

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study explores the replacement of cobalt using the high‐entropy alloy design strategy for wear‐resistant components operating at high temperatures. Starting from the Cantor alloy, cobalt is substituted with Cu, Al, V, or Mo. Metallurgical and tribological analyses reveal that aluminum, vanadium, and molybdenum effectively strengthen the developed ...
