The pick of the plot: An evidence‐based approach for selecting and testing suitable plants to use in annual seed mixes to attract insect pollinators

Concern regarding wild pollinator declines has increased motivation to plant pollinator‐friendly plants in gardens and urban areas, but ‘plants for pollinators’ recommendations are often anecdotal and inaccurate. Here, we use a scientific evidence base to design and test annual flowering seed mixes for bees and hoverflies.

Functional traits and soil water availability shape competitive interactions in a diploid–polyploid complex

Journal of Ecology, EarlyView.
Our study emphasises that the long‐term fate of polyploids largely depends on water availability, with high polyploids having a competitive advantage in arid environments. This ultimately highlights the role of functional traits in shaping the competitive dynamics between cytotypes.

Allergic Reactivity and Memory Occur Independently of Sequential Switching Through IgG1

Sequential switching through IgG1 is not required to produce IgE with sufficient allergen‐binding affinity to cause anaphylaxis against food allergens. Sequential switching through IgG1 does not confer a competitive advantage to become an IgE‐expressing cell.
