New Pyridobenothiazolone Derivatives Display Nanomolar Pan‐Serotype Anti‐Dengue Virus Activity

open access: yesChemMedChem, Volume 20, Issue 13, July 1, 2025.
A ligand‐based strategy is employed, starting from hit compound 2, to develop the C‐2 modified pyridobenzothiazolone 19 as a pan‐serotype nanomolar DENV‐1‐4 inhibitor. Investigations of the mechanism reveal the peculiar ability to abolish the infectivity of virions in a second infection.

Recruitment of Captive‐Reared Florida Grasshopper Sparrows After Translocation: Age of Release Matters

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 15, Issue 7, July 2025.
We found that a non‐migratory passerine raised in a conservation breeding facility demonstrated higher recruitment when translocated soon after fledging than when translocated as second‐year birds after spending their first winter in captivity. Despite being translocated only a few weeks before the onset of breeding, second‐year birds failed to settle ...

Haemosporidian Infection Risk Variation Across an Urban Gradient in a Songbird

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 15, Issue 7, July 2025.
Avian haemosporidian community composition of a songbird was assessed across an urbanization gradient. Broad urban‐associated land use changes corresponded with reduced host‐specialist parasites and reduced prevalence of avian parasites. Select local habitat characteristics and vector abundance may present additional risks for infection prevalence ...
