Antepartum death of a fetus in a multiple gestation can be associated with mortality or major morbidity in the survivor. This article reports a rare case of multicystic encephalomalacia that occurred in the survivor twin with antepartum death of its co-twin. Nigropallidal Encephalomalacia in Horses in Colorado

SUMMARY An impaired ability to prehend water and feed was observed in a 3-year-old mare at pasture in western Colorado. A clinical diagnosis of nigropallidal encephalomalacia was confirmed by gross findings at necropsy. Yellow star thistle (Centaurea solstitialis L.), a previously reported cause of the disease, could not be found in the pasture.
