On the composition of the intestinal microbiota of Fridericia hegemon (Enchytraeidae)
Soil Biology and Biochemistry, 1992Abstract A computer-aided numerical taxonomic analysis on selected representative bacterial and actinomycete strains isolated from fresh faecal pellets of Fridericia Hegemon (Enchytraeidae) revealed that pseudomonads, belonging to a particular variety of Pseudomonas aureofaciens , are the predominant gut colonizers of this worm.

Digestive Enzymes in Three Species of Enchytraeidae (Oligochaeta)
Oikos, 1981The paper reports the occurrence and activity of protease, amylase, invertase, cellulase and urease in the whole tissue of three species of Enchytraeidae. Hemienchytraeus khallikotosus shows maximum activity and Fridericia kalinga and Enchytraeus berhampurosus shows moderate to miniumum activity for the enzymes studied.

The influence of Enchytraeidae (Oligochaeta) on the soil porosity of small microcosms
Geoderma, 1993Tunneling and burrowing activities of soil organisms affect structure and porosity of soils, but the role of enchytraeids as a soil burrowing organism is unclear. This study was initiated to evaluate the effect of enchytraeids on soil porosity in two soils with different texture and similar, low organic matter contents.

A histochemical investigation of neurosecretion in Enchytraeus albidus (Enchytraeidae)
General and Comparative Endocrinology, 1974Abstract The histochemistry of the neurosecretions in the cerebral and subesophageal ganglia of Enchytraeus is examined. The secretions of Q and U cells contain cystine. The P cell secretions are characterized by a high content of lipids detectable in paraffin sections.

Vertical Movement of Enchytraeidae (Oligochaeta) in Moorland Soils
Oikos, 1970This study was carried out at Moor House National Nature Reserve, Westmorland, U.K. (alt. 549 m; 1800 ft), to test the hypothesis that superficial drying of the soil causes enchytraeid worms to move downwards. A significant correlation was established between low values of the Index of Humidity (I.H.) and low relative frequencies of worms in the ...

New enchytraeid species (Enchytraeidae, Oligochaeta) from Korea
Zootaxa, 2015We give descriptions of five new enchytraeid species (Enchytraeidae, Oligochaeta) from Korea: Henlea magnaampullacea sp. n., Fridericia sphaerica sp. n., F. cusanicaformis sp. n., F. granulocyta sp. n. and Mesenchytraeus calyx sp. n., with morphological and molecular (mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit I, nuclear histone 3 genes and nuclear ...

Dynamics of Enchytraeidae Populations on Hardangervidda
1975The dynamics of two Enchytraeidae populations at Stigstuv were studied over a period of 3 years. The sites selected were the dry and wet meadow (Sonesson et al., 1975). For various reasons, the group had to be mostly treated collectively during this investigation.

Micromorphology of ovaries and oogenesis in Grania postclitellochaeta (Clitellata: Enchytraeidae)
Zoology, 2018The genus Grania comprises over 70 species of exclusively marine clitellate annelids belonging to the family Enchytraeidae. Morphologically, this genus is well separated from other enchytraeids, with thick cuticles, anterior segments I-IV fused into a "head", chaetal bundles consisting only of one stout chaeta, and reduction of circular musculature ...

Efflux pump activity in Enchytraeidae
2019Enchytraeids are ecologically relevant soil organisms, which play an important role in organic matter decomposition and soil bioturbation. They live in close contact with the pore water fraction of soil which makes them vulnerable to xenobiotics exposure.
