Association of Elevated Platelets and C‐Reactive Protein With Severe Disease and Poor Survival in Systemic Sclerosis

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective Elevated C‐reactive protein (CRP) levels in systemic sclerosis (SSc) have been linked with severe disease and worse survival, but the role of platelet levels remains unclear. This study examined whether elevated platelet levels, CRP levels, or both are associated with disease severity, progression, and survival in SSc.

Development of a Disease Activity Index for the Assessment of VEXAS Syndrome (VEXAS‐DAI)

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective Vacuoles, E1 enzyme, X‐linked, autoinflammatory, somatic syndrome (VEXAS) syndrome is characterized by a complex spectrum of inflammatory and hematologic manifestations. Clinical research to identify effective therapies is urgently needed but is hindered by the lack of validated outcome measures.

Leveraging Natural Language Processing to Identify Variation in Kidney Transplant Access

open access: yesKidney International Reports
Introduction: There are significant sex, racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic disparities in kidney transplantation in the United States, but upstream factors driving these disparities are understudied because prewaitlisting data are not yet routinely ...

Elevated Liver Enzymes Is Not an Impediment to Allopurinol Dose Escalation: An Observational Cohort Study

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective Routine liver enzyme monitoring is advocated for while on allopurinol, but supporting guidance is lacking. We assessed the incidence and factors associated with elevated liver enzyme levels in patients with gout commenced on allopurinol. Methods One hundred and fifty patients with gout and normal baseline serum aminotransferases initiated on ...

Duke activity status index is not predictive of outcomes after kidney transplantation: a retrospective observational study

open access: yesBMC Nephrology
Background Reduced functional capacity increases the risk of adverse outcomes after kidney transplantation. The Duke Activity Status Index is a measurement of physical function, previously reported as being predictive of adverse outcomes after major non ...

Non‐Additive Criteria Assessment in Sustainability Evaluation of High Entropy Alloys: A Toxicity‐Weighted Framework

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Sustainability assessment requires methodologies that appropriately distinguish between additive and non‐additive material properties. A toxicity‐weighted scoring system is developed and applied that accounts for the disproportionate influence of highly toxic constituents through nonlinear weighting functions, providing more realistic estimates than ...

Changes in the quality of life and nutrition markers in transition from end-stage kidney disease to kidney transplantation: insights from a Vietnamese cohort [PDF]

open access: yes
Background: Malnutrition is strongly associated with lower quality of life (QoL) and lower survival rates in patients with end-stage kidney disease. However, the impact of renal transplantation on nutrition factors and QoL is unclear.

Fusogenic RNA Nanomodules for Fusion‐Mediated and Multiplexed siRNA Delivery

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A fusogenic lipid‐layered RNA nanomodules (L‐CRAMs) enable high‐capacity and long‐lasting siRNA delivery through membrane fusion. These nanomodules carry exceptionally large siRNA payloads, avoid conventional endosomal uptake, and release multiple functional siRNAs through Dicer‐mediated processing.

Myogenic Fusogen‐Engineered Lipid Nanoparticles Enhance mRNA Delivery in Skeletal Muscle

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study reports a biomimetic strategy of engineering full‐length Myomaker, a muscle‐specific fusogen, into lipid nanoparticles (LNPs) to harness the native myoblast fusion capability for skeletal muscle mRNA delivery. The resulting Mymk‐LNPs enhance transfection in differentiating myocytes and enable Cre‐mediated reporter activation in injured ...
