Is psoriasis an independent risk factor of renal disease? A nationwide retrospective cohort study from 1996 to 2010

open access: yesDermatologica Sinica, 2017
Background: Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory disease that affects the skin, joints, and cardiovascular system. Although a potential association of end-stage renal disease (ESRD) with psoriasis has been demonstrated in patients, the potential for the ...

The Management of End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) [PDF]

open access: yes, 1978
End-stage renal disease (ESRD) may be defined as a state of renal insufficiency of such severity that the affected individual is unable to carry out his usual activities because of symptoms usually attributed to the uremic syndrome.

Liquid biopsy epigenetics: establishing a molecular profile based on cell‐free DNA

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cell‐free DNA (cfDNA) fragments in plasma from cancer patients carry epigenetic signatures reflecting their cells of origin. These epigenetic features include DNA methylation, nucleosome modifications, and variations in fragmentation. This review describes the biological properties of each feature and explores optimal strategies for harnessing cfDNA ...

Molecular characterisation of human penile carcinoma and generation of paired epithelial primary cell lines

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Generation of two normal and tumour (cancerous) paired human cell lines using an established tissue culture technique and their characterisation is described. Cell lines were characterised at cellular, protein, chromosome and gene expression levels and for HPV status.

Methylation biomarkers can distinguish pleural mesothelioma from healthy pleura and other pleural pathologies

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We developed and validated a DNA methylation–based biomarker panel to distinguish pleural mesothelioma from other pleural conditions. Using the IMPRESS technology, we translated this panel into a clinically applicable assay. The resulting two classifier models demonstrated excellent performance, achieving high AUC values and strong diagnostic accuracy.

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Oral Anticoagulant Initiation in Patients With Kidney Failure on Hemodialysis Newly Diagnosed With Atrial Fibrillation (2007-2020): An Observational Study of Trends and Disparities

open access: yesKidney Medicine
Rationale & Objective: Atrial fibrillation (AF) is common in patients with kidney failure on hemodialysis (HD), but few patients receive oral anticoagulant (OAC) treatment.
