Species Abundance Distributions Patterns between Tiankeng Forests and Nearby Non-Tiankeng Forests in Southwest China

open access: yesDiversity, 2022
Identifying the species abundance distributions (SADs) in Tiankeng forests is crucial for restoring and managing degraded karst ecosystem, whereas previous studies rarely explored the differences and response of vegetation dynamics to environmental ...

Florida Wildlife Camera Trap Dataset [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2021
Trail camera imagery has increasingly gained popularity amongst biologists for conservation and ecological research. Minimal human interference required to operate camera traps allows capturing unbiased species activities. Several studies - based on human and wildlife interactions, migratory patterns of various species, risk of extinction in endangered

Shrimp Virus Regulates ROS Dynamics via the Nrf2 Pathway to Facilitate Viral Replication

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Viruses manipulate host ROS as a strategy to achieve successful infection. WSSV exploits Nrf2 pathway to maintain ROS homeostasis and establishes a positive feedback loop to facilitate WSSV replication. Wsv220 competitively binds to Keap1 to activate Nrf2. Nrf2 up‐regulates LvG6PDH to produce more NADPH and GSH to eliminate excessive ROS.

Potassium Application Alleviated Negative Effects of Soil Waterlogging Stress on Photosynthesis and Dry Biomass in Cotton

open access: yesAgronomy, 2023
Soil waterlogging is one of the most serious abiotic stresses on plant growth and crop productivity. In this study, two potassium application levels (0 and 150 kg K2O hm−2) with three types of soil waterlogging treatments (0 d, 3 d and 6 d) were ...

Piezoresistive Effect: A New Concept for Hearing Aids

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
An MXene/PVA sound sensor utilizing piezoresistive effects has been proposed with a detection limit of 60 dB and a frequency response of 20–4000 Hz, which is comparable to the performance of commercial hearing aids. By combining the sensor with machine learning, the accuracy rate of voiceprint recognition of wildlife conservation can reach up to 99 ...

Mixed‐Dimensional Floating Gate Phototransistors for Mixed‐Modal In‐Sensor Reservoir Computing

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Designing bio‐inspired multisensory neuromorphic devices holds significant importance for low‐power and high‐efficiency computing. Here, the authors introduce a floating‐gate phototransistor based on the mixed‐dimensional heterostructure of 0D‐CsPbBr3 QDs and 2D‐MoS2 few layers.

Latitudinal resource gradient shapes multivariate defense strategies in a long‐lived shrub

open access: yesEcology, Volume 103, Issue 12, December 2022., 2022
Abstract Plant defense against herbivores is multidimensional, and investment into different defense traits is intertwined due to genetic, physiological, and ecological costs. This relationship is expected to generate a trade‐off between direct defense and tolerance that is underlain by resource availability, with increasing resources being associated ...

The role played by invasive species in interactions with endangered and threatened species in the United States: a systematic review

open access: yesBiodiversity and Conservation, 2018
Invasive species are considered to be a leading cause of the decline of threatened species. However, this view has been disputed because much of the evidence base is anecdotal.

Environment libraries : endangered species? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Slashed budgets, accusations of political interference in science, protests from over 10,000 scientists, aggressive senatorial oversight hearings: who knew libraries could be at the center of such controversy.
