Abstract This report addresses the prospection of biological hazards for some types of food that may pose a risk to the population and that are not currently included in the official control programs in Spain. It completes and updates the 2018 report by the Scientific Committee of the Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition (AESAN, 2018). A number

In this study, we propose that the small protein ScrA acts as a link between the ArlRS and SaeRS two‐component systems in Staphylococcus aureus. ArlR positively regulates scrA expression and the resulting ScrA protein activates the SaeRS system, causing increased expression of Sae regulon genes.

Manganese transport in Streptococcus sanguinis has long been known to be mediated by an ABC transporter. When that transporter is eliminated, a newly discovered ZIP‐family protein, TmpA, takes over the role of manganese transport and in so doing, contributes to serum growth and endocarditis virulence.

Streptococcus sanguinis is an oral bacterium that competes with Streptococcus mutans, a causative agent of dental caries. We report that growth of S. sanguinis SK36 in acidic media leads to decreased manganese levels and changes in carbon catabolite repression.

Abstract The qualified presumption of safety (QPS) approach was developed to provide a generic pre‐evaluation of the safety of biological agents. The QPS approach is based on an assessment of published data for each agent, with respect to its taxonomic identity, the body of relevant knowledge and safety concerns.
