Although the origin of endodontics has been lost in the mists of antiquity, historical facts seem to converge on Pierre Fauchard (1678-1761) as the founder of modem dentistry. It was he who dispelled the tooth worm legend that was inscribed on an Assyrian cuneiform clay tablet.
