Polymeric nanoparticles for endodontic therapy

open access: yesJournal of the Mechanical Behavior of Biomedical Materials, 2020
The effectiveness of novel polymeric nanoparticles (NPs) application in reducing dentin permeability and facilitating dentin remineralization after endodontic treatment was evaluated. The effect of undoped NPs, zinc, calcium and doxycycline-doped NPs (Zn-NPs, Ca-NPs and D-NPs, respectively) was tested in radicular dentin.

Photodynamic therapy in endodontics [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Endodontic Journal, 2018
AbstractPhotodynamic therapy (PDT) is a treatment modality that was initiated in 1900; however, it was not until the last decade that PDT regained attention for its several favourable features during the treatment of microbial infections in endodontics. Recently, several papers advocated its use for root canal treatment.

Magnification devices for endodontic therapy [PDF]

open access: yesCochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, 2009
AbstractBackground:  After the introduction of microsurgical principles in endodontics, involving new techniques for root canal treatment, there has been a continuous search for enhancing the visualization of the surgical field. It would be interesting to know if the technical advantages for the operator brought in by magnification devices like ...

Photodynamic Therapy in Endodontics

open access: yesThe Journal of Contemporary Dental Practice, 2017
ABSTRACTCommonly used irrigants do not always eradicate the entire microbial flora in infected root canals. Therefore, several other strategies, such as photodynamic therapy (PDT) have been developed. Photoactivated disinfection is based on the interaction of a photosensitive antibacterial agent and a light source.

Health economic evaluation of endodontic therapies

open access: yesInternational Endodontic Journal, 2022
AbstractHealthcare is an expensive endeavour, and it is likely that costs for endodontic treatment will grow over the next decade. The assessment of costs and, in most cases, health outcomes, and the comparison of the cost‐health ratio of interventions, is at the heart of health economics.

Cohort study of endodontic therapy success [PDF]

open access: yesBrazilian Dental Journal, 2003
A retrospective cohort study was carried out aiming to assess the success rate of endodontic treatment of patients from the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Pernambuco, Brazil. The dental records of the sampling comprised all patients treated in 1998 and 1999. Trials were standardized and a pilot study was carried out to determine the feasibility of

Bisphosphonates and their clinical implications in endodontic therapy [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Endodontic Journal, 2012
AbstractThis review gives an overview of the factors that may play a role in the development of osteonecrosis of the jaw in patients treated with bisphosphonates (BPs) and undergoing nonsurgical endodontic treatment as well as some recommendations for its prevention. BPs are a widely prescribed group of drugs for diverse bone diseases.

Role of provisional restorations in endodontic therapy

open access: yesJournal of Pharmacy And Bioallied Sciences, 2013
Root-canal treatment can be carried out in single visit in vital, non-infected teeth, eliminating the need for dressing and provisionalization. Many clinical cases with infected canals require dressing with antibacterial medicaments in a multivisit treatment in which effective provisionalization for different periods of time becomes mandatory ...

Antimicrobial Irrigants in the Endodontic Therapy

open access: yesInternational Journal of Health Sciences, 2012
This paper highlights the importance of root canal disinfection. It discusses the different endodontic irrigants available and comments on how these can be used most effectively. Eliminating bacteria from the root canal system is an essential stage in endodontic therapy. An objective of endodontic treatment is removal of diseased tissue, elimination of
