The screening and identification of endogenous retrovirus free CEMPs

Science in China Series C, 2004
The provirus DNA sequence of porcine endogenous retrovirus (PERV) distributed in the pig genome is the major obstacle that restricts the swine as the organ donors in xenotransplantation, and the copy number of PERV varies greatly among different breeds and individuals. In the experiment, 67 healthy, female Chinese Experimental Mini-Pigs (CEMPs) aged at

Pig endogenous retrovirus – a threat to clinical xenotransplantation?

APMIS, 2000
Transplantation shows good results for patients with end‐stage disease, but there is an increasing lack of organs. Xenotransplantation, the transfer of live animal cells, tissues, or organs to another species, offers a potential solution to this shortfall. Pig is regarded as the animal of choice for this purpose.

Infection of human cells by an endogenous retrovirus of pigs

Nature Medicine, 1997
The possible use of pig organs and tissues as xenografts in humans is actively being considered in biomedical research. We therefore examined whether pig endogenous retrovirus (PERV) genomes can be infectiously transmitted to human cells in culture. Two pig kidney cell lines spontaneously produce C-type retrovirus particles.

Involvement of a Human Endogenous Retrovirus in Breast Cancer

2001
Abstract : The genomic DNA of a subset of humans contains an endogenous retrovirus closely related to mouse mammary tumor virus (MWTV) . Our overall goal is to determine whether the human mammary tumor virus (HMTV) sequences are involved in a subset of human breast cancers.
