The incidence of apical endolymphatic hydrops was determined in 495 temporal bones from 300 subjects in whom the otopathologic diagnoses were presbycusis, otosclerosis, otitis media, and nonpathologic cochlea. The overall incidence was 15.8% and was not significantly different in the four diagnostic groups.

The Laryngoscope, 1984AbstractIt has been postulated that otosclerosis may produce vertigo by several mechanisms. One mechanism is by causing endolymphatic hydrops. We present six temporal bones in which otosclerosis and endolymphatic hydrops coexist. We consider that there is a spectrumlike interrelationship between these two entities.
