Imaging of endolymphatic hydrops: A comprehensive update in primary and secondary hydropic ear disease

Journal of Vestibular Research-Equilibrium & Orientation, 2021
BACKGROUND: Since the first description by Hallpike and Cairns, the excess of endolymphatic fluid, also known as endolymphatic hydrops (EH), has been established as being the main biomarker in patients with Menière’s disease.

Differential Diagnosis of Endolymphatic Hydrops Between “Probable” and “Definite” Ménière’s Disease via Magnetic Resonance Imaging

Otolaryngology Head & Neck Surgery, 2021
Objectives To investigate the grade of endolymphatic hydrops in patients with “probable” and “definite” Ménière’s disease via magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and to determine whether MRI could assist clinicians in differential diagnosis between probable

Auditory biophysics of endolymphatic hydrops

Journal of Vestibular Research, 2021
Audiological tests in patients with Menière’s disease reveal abnormal patterns relevant for diagnostic purposes with some success. Electrocochleography, otoacoustic emissions and immittance measurements share a moderate sensitivity but a good specificity.

Posttraumatic Endolymphatic Hydrops

Archives of Otolaryngology, 1977
A case of posttraumatic endolymphatic hydrops that was confirmed by a positive glycerin test is reported. Although head trauma has been implicated as a cause of hydrops, few such cases are reported in the literature. Careful consideration of perilymphatic fistula must be accorded before a diagnosis of posttraumatic hydrops is made.

Evaluation of the blood–perilymph barrier in ears with endolymphatic hydrops

Acta Oto-Laryngologica, 2021
Background Otological diseases including Meniere’s disease (MD) involve endolymphatic hydrops (EH), which can be visualized by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) with gadolinium contrast agents, but the temporal changes of contrast in the inner ear have ...

Pathology of endolymphatic hydrops

The Journal of Laryngology & Otology, 1980
The term 'endolymphatic hydrops' is not a definitive diagnosis since the condition occurs in a variety of otological disorders. Endolymphatic hydrops was found in 57 ears (9 per cent) of the 703 temporal bones in the collection of the Ear Research Institute, Los Angeles.

Classification of endolymphatic hydrops

American Journal of Otolaryngology, 1982
Ménière's disease is but one member of a family of disorders linked by the common pathophysiologic substrate of endolymphatic hydrops. The authors evaluated both clinical cases and temporal bone specimens and conclude that endolymphatic hydrops is a pathologic condition that is the final common manifestation of a variety of otologic insults.

Apical Endolymphatic Hydrops

Archives of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, 1982
The incidence of apical endolymphatic hydrops was determined in 495 temporal bones from 300 subjects in whom the otopathologic diagnoses were presbycusis, otosclerosis, otitis media, and nonpathologic cochlea. The overall incidence was 15.8% and was not significantly different in the four diagnostic groups.

The Correlation Between Endolymphatic Hydrops and Clinical Features of Meniere Disease

The Laryngoscope, 2020
The purpose of this study was to investigate the grades of endolymphatic hydrops determined by gadolinium‐contrast magnetic resonance (MR) and correlation to the clinical features in patients with Meniere disease.

The dynamics of endolymphatic hydrops and vestibular disorders

Journal of Vestibular Research-Equilibrium & Orientation, 2021
Endolymphatic hydrops is defined as an accumulation of endolymph in the inner ear leading to a buildup of pressure and distortion of intralabyrinthine structures.
