Diagnostic Testing For Endolymphatic Hydrops

Otolaryngologic Clinics of North America, 1997
The development of a sensitive and specific diagnostic test for endolymphatic hydrops has eluded investigators for over 30 years. The absence of such a test has hampered basic and clinical research into Meniere's disease and related entities. Presently used tests are limited in their applicability because of their low sensitivity and specificity and a ...

Electrocochleography in Experimental Endolymphatic Hydrops

Acta Oto-Laryngologica, 1994
This study investigated whether dominant negative summating potential (DNSP) is absent at all stages of induced hydrops development, including the early stages of hydrops formations. Electrocochleography (ECoG) was done 3 days to 20 weeks after obliteration of the endolymphatic sac in guinea pigs, by electrodes attached to the cochlear bony wall on the

Traumatic endolymphatic hydrops.

The American journal of otology, 1996
Traumatic endolymphatic hydrops is an accumulation of endolymph in the cochlear duct caused by traumatic insult. The causative mechanisms are: (1) fistulization of the bony labyrinth, which causes a disturbance in the normal perilymph-endolymph pressure relationship; (2) direct injury to the membranous labyrinth, which may be just a collection of fluid

On the Relationship Between Menière's Disease and Endolymphatic Hydrops.

Otology and Neurotology, 2019
: The relationship between Menière's disease and endolymphatic hydrops is ambiguous. On the one hand, the existence of cases of endolymphatic hydrops lacking the classic symptoms of Menière's disease has prompted the assertion that endolymphatic hydrops ...

Animal models of endolymphatic hydrops

American Journal of Otolaryngology, 1982
Endolymphatic hydrops in the animal can be produced by various methods. The most promising is obliteration of the endolymphatic duct in the guinea pig. The extent of hydrops is similar to that of Ménière's disease specimens, but the animals are asymptomatic.

Delayed endolymphatic hydrops.

The Journal of otolaryngology, 1981
Eighteen patients with delayed endolymphatic hydrops are presented. This distinctive entity typically affects young adults and is characterized by episodic vertigo of Ménière's type occurring years after a sudden hearing loss. Measles or mumps were thought to have caused the hearing loss in eight patients.

The Vertigo of Endolymphatic Hydrops

Archives of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, 1967
THE VERTIGO of endolymphatic hydrops is of three types: the premonitory, the critical, and the residual. In a given case premonitory vertigo may or may not occur. When it does it is a valuable harbinger of more severe trouble to come. Regarded and diagnosed at this time as a labyrinthine symptom with a potentially grave future this premonitory ...

Pars Superioris in Endolymphatic Hydrops

Archives of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, 1984
A volumetric study was made of the endolymphatic compartments of the pars superioris (utricle and semicircular canals). Selected for this comparative study were 15 ears from subjects with unilateral endolymphatic hydrops, 15 contralateral ears, and 15 normal ears. There was an increase in the total volume as well as in the utricular volume.
