Surgery of the Endolymphatic Sac
Archives of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, 1966FOR this lecture in memory of George Morrison Coates, it is fitting to choose a subject that is in the forefront of otosurgical interest. It is easy to forget that in the beginning the operation that revolutionized otologic surgery, the one-stage fenestration operation, was vigorously opposed by nearly all of the leaders in otology. Experimental Hyperactivity of the Endolymphatic Sac
Audiology and Neurotology, 2013Injury to the endolymphatic sac may play an important role in the pathogenesis of Ménière’s disease, an inner ear disorder characterized by hearing loss, tinnitus and attacks of vertigo. Isoimmunization of 16 inbred Lewis rats with a crude endolymphatic sac extract and complete Freund’s adjuvant induced hyperactivity of the endolymphatic sac. One group

Surgery of the endolymphatic sac
The Laryngoscope, 1981AbstractThe wide variation in reported success rates in endolymphatic sac surgery has been the subject of much controversy in literature. This series is a follow‐up of additional cases done since 1976 that were previously reported with 55% relief of vertigo on relatively long‐term follow‐ups of 24 months to 10 years.

Gene expression of the endolymphatic sac
Acta Oto-Laryngologica, 2011The endolymphatic sac is part of the membranous inner ear and is thought to play a role in the fluid homeostasis and immune defense of the inner ear; however, the exact function of the endolymphatic sac is not fully known. Many of the detected mRNAs in this study suggest that the endolymphatic sac has multiple and diverse functions in the inner ear.The

Is the Endolymphatic Sac Always Accessible?
Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery, 1985All surgical manipulations of the endolymphatic sac have a common requirement: to identify the intradural part. We studied the position of the intradural endolymphatic sac in relation to the posterior semicircular canal, the sigmoid sinus, the retrofacial air cell tract, and the jugular bulb in 50 temporal bones.

Effects of amiloride on the endolymphatic sac
The Journal of Laryngology & Otology, 1989AbstractThe effect of amiloride on the murine endolymphatic sac was investigated. The amiloride caused collapse of the lateral intercellular spaces in the endolymphatic sac epithelium and a subsequent mild endolymphatic hydrops. These changes indicated a decreased absorption of endolymph in the endolymphatic sac.

Ultrastructure of the Endolymphatic Sac in the Mouse
Cells Tissues Organs, 1991The ultrastructure of the endolymphatic sac (ES) in the mouse was examined by light and electron microscopy. This organ was divided into three parts: proximal, intermediate and distal. In the proximal portion of the ES, the epithelium consisted of thin squamous cells.

The Surgical Anatomy of the Endolymphatic Sac
Archives of Otolaryngology, 1977The endolymphatic sac (ELS) and vestibular aqueduct (VA), which play a notable role in the pathogenesis of endolymphatic hydrops and Meniere disease, were identified in all anatomic and tomographic materials. More than 100 temporal bones were used for microdissection, tomography, and plastic molds.

Endolymphatic sac decompression
2018This chapter discusses Thomsen, Bretlau, Tos, and Johnsen’s 1981 paper on Ménière’s disease and endolymphatic sac decompression compared with sham (placebo) decompression including the design of the study (outcome measures, results, conclusions, and a critique).

Destruction of the endolymphatic sac in the cat
The Journal of Laryngology & Otology, 1976The endolymphatic duct and sac were destroyed by drilling in a cat that was sacrificied after 2 3/4 years. Histological examination of the temporal bones showed marked endolymphatic hydrops; degeneration of the stria vascularis in the upper coil; degeneration of the organ of Corti and spiral ganglion in the upper and middle coils; and degeneration of ...
