Background: Endolymphatic sac drainage (ELSD) may have a positive effect on endolymphatic hydrops (EH) and may help to preserve inner ear function. However, the relationship between changes in EH volumes and hearing function after ELSD has not been ...

Case Series and Systematic Review of Radiation Outcomes for Endolymphatic Sac Tumors.
Otology and Neurotology, 2018OBJECTIVE Surgery is the primary treatment modality for endolymphatic sac tumors (ELST). Two case examples are presented to highlight some rare instances when radiation therapy may be used.

Endolymphatic Sac Decompression With Intra-Sac Dexamethasone Injection in Menière's Disease.
Otology and Neurotology, 2018OBJECTIVE Endolymphatic sac decompression surgery (ELSD) may be used to treat patients who have Menière's 's disease refractory to medical therapy. In this study, we investigated whether or not the injection of steroid into the endolymphatic sac at the ...

Bilateral endolymphatic sac papillary carcinoma
British Journal of Neurosurgery, 1999We report a case of bilateral and almost symmetrical endolymphatic sac papillary adenocarcinoma. A 22-year-old male patient presented with bilateral sixth, seventh, eighth and lower cranial nerve paresis and ataxia. Radiological investigations revealed extensively vascular tumours in the region of both jugular bulbs.

Sequential Imaging in Patient With Suspected Menière's Disease Identifies Endolymphatic Sac Tumor.
Otology and Neurotology, 2018OBJECTIVE The standard evaluation of patients with suspected Menière's disease (MD) includes initial imaging to rule out tumors of the temporal bone. Few guidelines, however, advocate sequential imaging.

Ischemia of the Endolymphatic Sac
Acta Oto-Laryngologica, 1992A decrease in vascular density in the endolymphatic sac was suspected as a factor in the pathogenesis of endolymphatic hydrops in Meniere's disease. The present study was undertaken to explore this possibility by cutting the posterior meningeal artery and the sigmoid sinus above and below the external aperture of the vestibular aqueduct or by incision ...

The endolymphatic sac: Anatomical considerations
The Laryngoscope, 1979AbstractSince Portmann suggested surgical drainage of the endolymphatic sac in 1927, several similar procedures have been described. These procedures all share a common problem: the endolymphatic sac must be identified without injuring the labyrinthine structures or the facial nerve.Anson and Donaldson have provided the otologist with a detailed and ...

This section describes the technique of identifying the endolymphatic sac, decompressing the sac, and opening the sac for shunt placement. The authors do not endorse a specific procedure for hydrops. Surgery on the endolymphatic sac requires a complete simple mastoidectomy as outlined in the preceding section.
