A number of oncogenes and tumor suppressor genes that may serves as surrogate biomarkers of transformation are altered during the process of endometrial carcinogenesis. Overexpression of HER-2/neu occurs in 10% of endometrial adenocarcinomas and correlates with intraperitoneal spread of disease and poor survival.

Adenocarcinoma of the endometrium
American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, 1967Abstract Analysis of 265 patients with adenocarcinoma of the endometrium treated at the Yale-New Haven Medical Center showed that older patients and those with an undifferentiated tumor had a less favorable prognosis. To permit comparison between the groups who received preoperative radiotherapy with one that received operation only, it was found ...

Pharmacology of the endometrium
Gynecologic Oncology, 1974Abstract The multiple effects of a wide range of estrogenic, progestagenic, antiestrogenic, androgenic, corticoid, and anticorticoidal steroids are to be kept in mind in considering possible therapeutic candidates for the hormonal suppression of endometrial cancer.

Angiogenesis in the endometrium
Angiogenesis, 1998Human endometrial vasculature has the unique property of undergoing benign angiogenesis during each menstrual cycle under the influence of the ovarian steroids estradiol and progesterone. However, neither has intrinsic angiogenic activity and endometrial angiogenesis involves stimulation by ovarian steroids of angiogenic factor release by the ...

Implantation and the endometrium
Current Opinion in Obstetrics and Gynecology, 1995Our knowledge relating implantation and the endometrium is largely descriptive at present. In the absence of a unifying hypothesis, I describe endometrial receptivity for implantation. Tissue component data are described, first relating to whole tissue, then isolated glands and stroma, vessels, the luminal epithelium, and infiltrating leukocytes ...

Tamoxifen, a nonsteroidal antiestrogen, was first approved by the Food and Drug Administration in 1978 for the treatment of patients with breast cancer. Large clinical trials involving over 75,000 patients have demonstrated an improved recurrence-free and overall survival benefit in both premenopausal and postmenopausal women.

Abstract Three cases of tumor of the endometrium are reported which fulfill the criteria of malignancy. Two of them had massive recurrence after operation and one metastasized. They deserve the term “sarcoma” rather than endometriosis. They were peculiarly sensitive to radiation.
